Caregiving here appears oriented to the needs of the staff rather than the needs of the individual. Rules established by the state to foster patient care are often misrepresented and used as an excuse for institutional deficits. Staff are very hardworking and endeavor to be kind but lack necessary support and direction to provide good care. Attempts by family members to participate in care are thwarted by administrators who appear to make every attempt to discourage involvement.

Their primary concern is what's best for them, and they only give me the advice that would benefit them the most. They are not always prepared for my appointment. The staff must have not been trained very well and can often be rude. Almost every time I would ask them a question, they'd refer me to their boss or someone else. My mother remains there because of the length of time she has been there and the confusion that she would suffer by moving her. It is however being considered. The other issue is the violence of the neighborhood.
