I have found the staff at Marymount Manor to be warm and genuinly concerned about their patients. My Mother has been there for more than six years, both in an assisted living apartment and now in the skilled nursing area due to memory problems and more recently, a broken hip requiring the use of a walker. I am there usually three times a week and every concern I have had has been taken seriouisly and addressed at some level, from the nurses aides to the director of nursing to the in house administrator. Some staff have been there 25 years and it isn't for the big money, as this institution like many others struggles to keep fees reasonable. I have witnessed patient care on many levels and at various times during the day and evening, I have talked to the night staff who never hesitated to care or check on my Mother, including going up to her apartment to simply put the phone back on it's cradle. I have seen kindness from everyone from the receptionist to the laundry ladies, from the recreation staff to the housekeepers and the cooks and the maintenence men. It isn't just the nurses and their aides that support and care for the residents. There is ongoing upgrades and remodeling, I have always seen maintenance addresssed from the roof on down. Except late in the evening, I cannot remember an occassion when the housekeepers were not visable taking care of rooms as well as endlessly cleaning floors (I was told the halls and common areas are done twice a day). No facility of this kind is perfect, and I have seen folks struggling with physical and mental issues that could break your heart, so I give those who care for them with a smile and with compassion a well deserved "thank you". I know who does the heavy lifting, I know how hard it is sometimes to do this kind of work, and I respect those that do it well and with heart. I am sorry if the experience of others has not been that of me and my family, I can only report what I have seen and personally experienced, and I am grateful that Marymount has been such a good fit for my Mother. I have to largely credit the staff at every level who every day look out and care about her when I cannot.
