After extensive research, I located my mother to Heartwood. She was there 3 years. Family visited her frequently at all hours of day and night. While no nursing home is perfect, and there will be problems where ever one is -- we were glad Mom was at Heartwood. Knowing what I know: I'd make the same decision, again.

Whenever we walked through the community, it was common to find random acts of kindness from employees to residents. People were kind. Residents smiled and laughed. I was an extremely vocal patient advocate, and they appreciated that. Together we worked to keep Mom as healthy as possible for a long as possible, and smiling ... until she faded and passed.

Then when my sister's father-in-law required 24-hour care (after living with my sister's family for a decade), they trusted Heartwood with my WWII buddy., after having a dismal experience elsewhere. We should have gone to Heartwood first.

If I ever require 24-hour care, I'd first ask family to investigate Heartwood as an option -- to see if they continue to have the heart we experienced.

They are independently owned (which is rare nowadays), and the owners are frequently on site.

My sister and I have gone back a number of times, after we no longer have family there -- to say "Hi!" and hug the employees who were so very caring. And to give hugs to Mom's neighbors at Heartwood.

They've never used foul language, which has bothered me at some of the other places I've been too. They always make an extra effort to be polite and courteous. They have a very good professional reputation. I know that I'm under the care of an expert. There was no annoying music playing while I waited or during my visit. I appreciated that they didn't have that typical elevator music on. They have really great customer service here. They always put their customers first, regardless of the situation. They paid close attention to me and all of my questions were answered.
