My Mother is currently a resident of this facility, My family and my mother are very pleased with the wonderful care & rehab she is receiving post stroke. The Nursing team, social worker, Recreation departments are wonderful. Making a very stressful situation much better.

Couldn't be more thankful for this wonderful tam of care givers at
The Glen Cove Center.

I spent four weeks at this facility after receiving a fracture of the pelvis. No surgery was required but I was sent to the Rehab to strengthen my muscles to enable me to walk again.
This whole experience was a nightmare. In particular, most of the aides acted as if they were doing you a big favor by helping you with any simple task. When you rang the buzzer for help in going to the bathroom there were times you had to wait for 20 minutes before an aide arrived. By that time it was too late. When you have to go, you can't wait for 20 minutes. As soon as I was able to move a bit, I moved a wheel chair to the side of my bed so I could go to the bathroom myself. Getting a shower was nearly impossible. Only saw one shower on the side near my room. It was like I had to beg to get cleaned. One day an aide walked into my room and I never noticed her leaving. Then about 20 minutes later I saw her come out of the bathroom and leave my room. She must have been hiding there so she didn't have to attend to anyone. The weekends were the worst. Skeleton crew. Couldn't find anyone to help you.
The lady next to me needed constant care. One day they put her to sleep at 5PM with a diaper. An aide came in at 11 PM, turned her light on and preceded to walk out. She was not changed till 6 AM. Over 13 hours in a wet diaper. That was disgraceful. She was soaked in urine. One evening after they changed her, at 10 PM I wanted to use the bathroom. I found they placed her wheelchair right in front of the bathroom door so I couldn't get in. I rang but nobody came. I finally wheeled myself into the hallway. Nobody was there. I finally found a nurse who came in to move the wheelchair away. As she was leaving the room, I called for her to stay as I noticed the food tray was in the bathroom so I couldn't get in. How stupid can people be???? Blocking the door with a wheelchair. It happened more than once. Everybody seemed to know that I was having a meeting with the PT supervisor, Head of Nursing, Dietitian, etc. when one of the aides informed me not to say anything bad about her. What a threat that was. If I had mentioned her by name, I would have really been treated badly.

Unlike the aides, the nurses were pretty good. Unfortunately, they had too many people to take care of efficiently. Completely understaffed. Must be a money issue. The less people that work there, the more money the owners make.

I had one roommate who had a visitor at 11PM. Lights and TV were turned on. Just in time to disturb my sleep. Nothing could be done about it. Visiting was anytime. Tried getting my room changed to no avail.

I was yessed to death about every issue I presented to the authority but nothing was ever done.

The PT staff was okay. Not the greatest. Some were better than others. No continuity as you always had different ones of the weekends. The OTs were alright. Not too helpful. One did nothing but yawn and look at her watch the whole time I was there. She couldn't wait to be finished with me. I was supposed to have PT every day but they didn't schedule me for weekends so I had to beg for therapy on Saturday and Sunday.

Luckily, I was able to be my own advocate. But if you are unable to speak up, you can be in real trouble at this place.

The food was not great. Very bland. You were lucky if you received what you ordered. I can say that the onsite bakery was very good. Food was the least of the problems.

All in all, I couldn't wait to leave. The worst experience of my life. This is supposed to be one the best rehab places. If so, I would hate to see what a bad one would be like!

I understand that from some of the people working there that it used to be a great place for rehab but it was sold a few years ago and went downhill since then.

I hope this review is helpful.

If you must go here then stay away from the 2nd floor If the aids don't get you then the Nursing staff surely will.If you think that waiting over an hour for pain meds. is ok then go be happy with your pain.If you think waiting for someone to give you a bed paid for an hour then go be happy with your bladder.Don't misunderstand some of the staff are very helpful but no enough to make up for the ones that are hiding. It's inhumane to leave somebody on the bed pan for 15-20 min. and when staff comes into the room they tell you " I'll find your aid" but never thinking to remove the bed pan from your butt and never looking for your aid. If you think this is ok then go be happy with your roids. Look at all the Great work this facility had done in the past till 2013 nothing in 2014,15,or 16 the staff has changed, the type of help has changed, the facility has changed and not for the better. You go and see for yourself, if, you feel that you were helped at Glen Cove Nursing and Rehab count yourself as one of the lucky ones.GO AHEAD BE HAPPY GOOD LUCK!!!.

Stay Away! Unless you are looking to collect your loved ones life insurance. Just walk through, you will hear people pleading for help. Those are the ones lucky enough to communicate. It is heartbreaking. They don't care.

Glen Cove Nursing and Rehab is in one word - HORRIBLE. Don't let the first floor of the facility fool you or the banner on the front of the building. Reception area and personnel are nice. Socialworker at facility was also nice and helpful. It stops there. Second floor care is a nightmare. We often smelled urine down one particular hallway on the second floor. Our mother was there for several weeks after a stroke in early 2014. They are severely understaffed, although they will tell you they meet the state guidelines. We had to sleep there to make sure our mother was cared for and many nights we witnessed other patients begging for our help to get a nurse, get to bed, go to the bathroom, etc. It was heartbreaking. A few, and I mean only a few of the nurses/aides were pretty good. Most had attitudes and were nasty. Numerous times - too many to count, we had to wait LONG times for assistance to get our mother to or from the bathroom or out of bed into a chair, changed, etc. One example: One time our mother was put on the toilet and I stayed w/her so the aid could attend to another patient (something they are not supposed to do), but we tried to be of assistance to them when we could, because we knew they needed to attend to others. When my mother was ready to go back to bed, I buzzed several times for assistance. I waited 45 mins and at that point my mother was in agony sitting so long on the toilet, so I had to go out to the hallway, leave my mother unattended, and scream at the aides (they were at the nurses station) to come get her back to bed and only then did they come in. Most evenings there were long stretches, hours, that we never saw anyone at the nurses station on the second floor. They will say the nurses were taking care of patients, and maybe they were, but, if you called for help - good luck getting someone to come. Our family complained to administration and nursing supervisors numerous times and things would get better for a day or two! My sister and I even had to change our mother ourselves on more than one occasion because we could never get anyone to come in to do it. Even medications weren't given consistently. I had to tell a night nurse at 10:45 pm. one evening that my mother was still waiting for her evening meds that she was due to get by 6 p.m. (This was after reminding her several times that evening that my mother was still waiting, and she just kept telling me she would be coming in shortly). She would have never received them, because the nurse had already returned the medications cart to the nursing station for the evening when I went out to the nurses station exasperated at 10:45 that evening! I complained to the nursing supervisor and the nurse was supposedly reprimanded, but the very next day she verbally denied to a sibling that it was her that forgot to give our mother the meds. She said it was a different nurse! Very frustrating. Please, take your loved one somewhere else. Unless they can get around for themselves, this place will be torture for them. I'm sorry I didn't write a review sooner. I hope someone will benefit from this. We thought from the US News and World Report review this was a good place - the first floor seems like a whole different world compared to the second floor - stay away unless you are young and mobile and can fend for yourself.

My mom was there for rehabilitation for 1 week following a hip replacement. Place sound so much better on their website than in person. Rooms were extremely hot. Décor was not updated in the rooms. Some staff were nice and some were not. They stereotype older people by talking very loudly to them. Food was horrible. Brought my mom dinner every night. Must question what medicine they give you because it seems like they like to push pain meds. My mom refused. Therapy was adequate. Would not send her back if she ever needed intensive rehab, Would not recommend.
