I have a large family with lots of aunts and uncles all over the place. To say I've seen a lot of hospitals and rehabs is certainly an understatement, but it puts things in perspective for you. The food won't ever be the best, your call bell won't always get answered immediately, and the beds will never be as comfortable as your own. But how's the care? The attention? When you're used to taking care of your mother in your own home, you hold certain expectations; and I'll admit; I was not always an easy daughter to deal with. But I do see the nurses and aids trying. I see the patience they have and sincerity in their work. And in the end my mother is always very happy and truly that is all I can ever ask for.

To receive a smart rating of 3 based on a comparison of all NJ nursing homes with ratings of 1 and 2 in the three criteria is a sad commentary on both Arcadia and NJ nursing homes as a whole.
The Inspection deficiencies have remained consistence within the categories over the past several years, yet somehow the deficiencies are corrected within days, to be identified in the next years inspections to be once again deficient.
Historically, the NJ state inspection ratings fall in line with the Medicare ratings, giving each category a rating of 2 out of 5 with the exception of flu and pneumonia inoculations in which Arcadia receives a rating of 5.
It is these 5 ratings for vaccines that push Arcadia to an overall 3 rating.
Although important, vaccines should be less weighted then the areas of patient care, nutrition, and environmental services that impact the patients quality of life on a daily basis.
Although there are few exceptions, the quality of staff is far below average.
Before considering placing a loved one in this facility, ASK QUESTIONS!!
Number of outstanding and settled lawsuits regarding deaths due to negligence.
Currently employed nurse that did resident care and did not realize that the resident was deceased.
Currently employed nurse that administered medication to a fully functioning resident with solid food although repeatedly told medication must be given with liquids. Resident aspirated, sent to ER, returned to Arcadia with a trach, bedridden and passed away shortly after.
Research the personal and professional background on owner/administrator Michael Gabriel.
The staff that are truly good nurses are long term employees before the downward spiral, or the newly hired or those that dare to try to improve the quality of care either quit or terminated for company policy violations, which are obviously a policy of poor to mediocre care.
Talk to the local hospitals and staff doctors as to their professional opinion of Arcadia.

Not only did they not welcome my questions, they just dismissed them as unimportant. I felt like they didn't really care about helping me. If your loved one needs any care at all I would suggest another facility. They find difficulty providing basic care such as clean bedding and basic activities of daily living.
