Yes I will say I would not recommend this nursing home at all, The patients are treated good there medicine is slammed on tray hours before it is to take. Do not get proper food always cold when the patients get it. Rooms stick with urine odor. Patients hit people, Patients hit the staff. It is not equipped to take care of patients with Alhaziers. The state Health Department needs to amke a surprise visit and see the conditions and go to the cafeteria and see what kind of food is given to patients .

My mother has been in this facility for several years now. She started there after knee replacement for rehab and moved back home, but later she began to miss taking her meds and re-entered the facility in the nursing home. I can honestly say that she has thrived there. She is in her 90's and still has her cognitive skills and pretty mobile and I am sure this helps. But she seems to love the nursing staff, administrators kitchen and other staff. I have siblings who also visit often and we all agree if we have to ever go into a nursing home this is the one for us, so I think that really sums up how we feel about Amelia Rehab and nursing home in Amelia Courthouse, VA

First, to protect me, this is MY opinion. Everything I write, I do believe to be true and accurate.Amelia Nursing home has good food and "some" good CNA's. Very many however, do tend to neglect their duties if a family memeber is not there to make sure their loved one is tended to. Personally, we had a member of our mother's family there most of the time and got to know some CNA's and nurses personally so we got a higher level of care. The visiting doctor,in my opinion, leaves a bit to be desired. I just never got the feeling from her that my mother was a priority, but rather just a number.
I also feel that Amelia Nursing Home is a "don't rock the boat" sort of place. In other words, if a nurse does her job in reporting a subordinate, the report is can be lost. No action taken. If it were not for two CNA's and my mother's roommate, my mother would have likely had bedsores from lack of attention. I did go directly to the director on occasion, was promised the situations would be handled, but the same slack employees never seemed to change, or lose their jobs as some seriously warranted. Sometimes, especially in the night shift, I would have to literally go outside and wait for them to finish their cigarettes or get back from the store and ask them to go change her or help her.
Recently, I learned of a nurse being threatened by three CNA's. Serious enough where the nurse called 911. Serious enough where the 911 operator heard the yelling at the nurse and sent the police in under two minutes. The assistant director of nursing had already conviently "lost" a write up of one of the CNA's and seemed to follow the rule of "don't rock the boat." The nurse is a very small, petite, mild mannered woman who was the type you actually could trust your mother's care under. The nurse was fired after calling 911. Business as usual at Amelia Nursing Home. The story, I am sure, will be told in a favorable manner by the assistant director of nursing, director of nursing, and director...all of whom seem NOT to want to rock the boat, seem not THAT interested in the patient's care but more in getting the $$$.
