Dr Mayer has been absolutely fantastic with treating my little boy's asthma and allergy issues. He and his staff are very involved in making sure that you are completely happy with your child's care. I would happily reccommend him to anyone who needs a specialist for their child. They really do go above and beyond, and I wouldnt feel comfortable with any other doctor/staff treating my child.

I found this office from my insurance website. I wanted to make sure I went to an office that participated with my new insurance. I was looking for an allergy office close to my home. I have asthma & severe seasonal allergies. I suspected some food allergies but once tested and diagnosed by Dr Mayer, I learned of (OAS) Oral Allergy Syndrome. This made total sense to me considering the symptoms I was having.
The Dr & staff are very friendly and took plenty of time educating me. I do have some medical background as an receptionist in Plymouth. Their staff goes above and beyond your typical medical office staff. I I highly recommend them to anyone. I have referred several of my friends and even patients in my work office to this allergy office.

I was very anxious to speak with Dr. Mayer based upon his credentials and referral from my family practitioners office concerning my 4 1/2 year old son's environmental allergies. Upon speaking with his office to schedule the initial appt, they instructed me to bring any prior allergy testing with me. About two months prior to this, my son had just been tested for food allergies through Genova Diagnostics (which we paid for) and we had already consulted with two others physicians in regard to these results. We were already well aware of his food sensitivities/allergies and were actively addressing his diet.

Upon meeting with Dr. Mayer and explaining to him why I was there, I gave him a brief history on my son and explained to him that I was concerned about his asthma in relation to environmental allergies due to the fact that it seemed like they were getting worse especially in the Spring and Fall when allergy season is at its prime. I also explained to him that we lived in a very heavily wooded area.

Dr. Mayer spent close to two hours with me going over the food sensitivity test that I brought with me and pretty much just elaborated on those food allergies, information on epipens, school issues, antiphylactic reactions, etc which I was already aware of because of the fact that my older son also has some of the same allergies as my younger son.

I asked him two more times about testing for environmental allergies and he said that for now he just wanted me to digest the information we had gone over and on our next visit (one month from now) we could do the environmental skin test. I asked him what to do between now and then since my son was needing a considerable amount of breathing treatments. He recommended giving him an inhaled steroid 2x/day.

My insurance did not cover any allergy related visits or testing, so I had to pay out-of-pocket which I was aware of at the time of the visit. Upon leaving there, I did not feel like I had gained any further information as it related to outdoor allergens. I had a better understanding of my sons food allergies which I was already addressing. I called his office the next morning to explain my concern and set up an appt for skin testing but asked them if they could waive the office visit charge due to the fact that I really wanted that to be included in the previous visit. They stated that Dr. Mayer would not waive the charge and that if I felt I did not get anything out of the visit re: my son's life threatening food allergies then maybe I should consult another physician or stay with the physician's that I had the original food test/results done with. Needless to say, those physicians do not offer allergy skin testing.

It is unfortnate that Dr. Mayer was so defensive in his response to my request. All I wanted to know is if my son had environmental allergies so that I could address those issues along with his food allergies. Dr. Mayer needs to listen to the requests of his patients concerns and address those specific areas especially when the patient is paying out-of-pocket. I found his phone receptionist to also be very standoffish when we were addressing our feelings about his unwillingness to administer the environmental allergy testing during our two hour visit. I will never return to his office nor will I ever refer or recommend anyone to him.
