This doctor is simply a butcher who is unethical and has no compassion for his patients. My husband had a vasectomy performed by him, and Dr. Mikkelsen did not wait the 15-30 minutes for the lidocaine to numb him. Even though my husband told Dr. M that he felt everything that was being done, Dr. M just gave him more lidocaine and continued to work without waiting. Additionally, he's arrogant and his bedside manner is sorely lacking. My husband only went to him because of my gynecologist's recommendation, his credentials, and his years of experience. As we discovered, all of that does not mean a doctor is good. Furthermore, the office wouldn't even let us schedule a consultation before checking our insurance first. The message they give is that money matters more than their patients and their well-being. Stay away from Dr. Mikkelsen. I would not recommend him to my worst enemy.

I wanted to change Urologist because of a problem I had with a diagnosis involving cancer..I ended up at the Univ of Wash for a second opinion and surgery..at any rate I needed someone to start a 10 year follow up here in Spokane, so I asked my daughter, who's in the medical field, who she would recommend, hands down it was Mikkelsen. I've been seeing him consistently now for about two years and have the utmost confidence in him, without question. I like someone that is no nonsense and thorough in what he does. I've read some of the other comments and my response is, did you want a new friend or someone that knows what their doing and you can trust to look after you?

Dr. Mikkelsen is not the doctor for you if you need medical advice. He only is interested in the techniqual aspects of practice (ie. surgery). Also, i understand his surgical skills have deteriated to now requiring the robotic platform.
in addition, the office barely had any magazines to choose from, and the ones that were available weren't very interesting. They didn't listen to anything I had to say! Whenever I tried to get a word in, they either interrupted me or cut me off before I could finish.

Their staff was not that friendly, and didn't go out of their way to make me feel welcome. They weren't very careful during my appointment, and I ended up being in a lot of pain that I know could have been avoided.

i would go elsewhere if i had to do it over again

Although Dr. Mikkelson is an excellent surgeon, his bedside manner with his patients leave so much to be desired. I had prostate surgery almost a year ago and shared a room at Sacred Heart with a patient who had the exact same procedure. Had it not been for me overhearing the other doctor's advice and instruction to his patient, I would have been completely in the dark about what to do and what to expect following my surgery. Dr. Mikkelson seemed as though he had no interest in other than the technical aspects of the surgery itself and I was just a subject rather than a patient.
