If I could give 0 stars I would. Please, please, PLEASE avoid this man, especially if you are a person of color. He has an ego the size of the sun and is a raging racist. He has, on multiple occasions, complained about my mother and father's accent, disregarded any struggle I have faced due to racism, called black people "blacks", and waved me off when I tried to explain to him why that was wrong. This is the same man who called an autism diagnosis "the kiss of death". This mindset is dangerous and I'm sure his clients/potential clients with autism would be hurt to hear him say this. During our very last session, we got in to an argument in which he accused me of calling him stupid (which I never said, but ... if the shoe fits), and then ripped up my prescriptions right in front of me. In a letter he sent me afterwards, he rubbed my traumatizing sexual assault right in my face, even implying that I was in part responsible for it. This man is childish, petty, and frankly disgusting. There are better psychiatrists in Vancouver, do yourself a favor and find somebody else.

The fact that he has a disclaimer at the beginning of his bio should be a red flag. I WAS a patient of his for 2 years and it was traumatizing. I believe every negative review written because I have my own experiences that confirm that this is who he is. Please do not see him, he will over prescribe you medication, misdiagnose you, and invalidate any and all struggles you face. I am only writing this so that nobody else will go through what I have with him.

Dr. Mortimer is one of the kindest psychiatrists I have ever worked with in the 23 years of managing my disease. He is brilliant, creative, humble, and compassionate. He cares about and takes care of his patients. He treats the individual in front of him and is extremely thoughtful about what he prescribes and recommends. He listens to his patients and treats you as an equal. I have thrived under his care.

You won't need to look any further than the "Warning" Mortimer edited on to this page to describe his patients as 'profoundly disturbed' to understand what I am about to tell you.

Please do not take your child to Dr. Mortimer if you genuinely care about your child's well-being! I am a former child patient of Mortimer's, now 30 years old, and I am still untangling the damages done in that man's office.

My mother took me to Mortimer when I was around 11 and continued to take me there into my early teen years. Mortimer invented various conditions for me, including but not limited to ADHD, and prescribed me *double* the recommended dosage of a drug known as Desoxyn despite my vehement objections as a child. If you've never heard of Desoxyn, it's probably because you know it by its more common street name: Meth. Unlike drugs such as Vyvanse or Ritalin, Desoxyn is pure unadulterated methamphetamine. Per the Wikipedia page, "It is rarely prescribed due to concerns involving human neurotoxicity, the availability of safer substitute drugs with comparable treatment efficacy, and the high potential for recreational use, among other concerns." As I said, he gave me double the recommended dosage, told me it would be good for me since I could stand to lose a few pounds (I was 11, fairly active, and certainly not obese!), and it caused a host of new problems for me. It was a nightmare - I was literally a tiny meth addict. I lost too much weight, became paranoid, had outbursts of violent behavior, developed physical tics. He pointed to these as indicators of the conditions he had invented for me, but I will state this clearly: when I got away from his care and off of Desoxyn, my condition improved immeasurably!! It was quite evident that these issues arose as a result of the dangerous levels of methamphetamine constantly in my blood stream.

Dr. Dale Mortimer will knowingly and intentionally psychologically cripple your child so that you will continue to bring them to him and pay him his exorbitant fees. Please pay attention to other reviews here - he absolutely has his own agenda and your child is not his first, second, or even fifth priority. He selects his medications and dosages based on maximizing profit, not based on your child's needs.

If you absolutely must take your child to Dr. Mortimer, please follow this advice (and actually, it's good advice for taking your child to any medical provider!)

1. Do your research! The internet is easier to use these days. Look up the drug being prescribed to your child, look up the regular dosages, check side effects, and ask him questions about any concerns you might have. If he dismisses your concerns or gets irritated with you for questioning him, remove your child from his care immediately!

2. Listen to your child! It's VERY IMPORTANT to find a psychiatrist that your child can work with, and trust me, it IS possible, even if Dr. Mortimer claims your child does not know their own needs. If your child expresses discomfort around Dr. Mortimer or tells you they think their medications are harmful to them, remove your child from his care immediately!

3. Take notes on everything he says, especially anything that sounds like incomprehensible medical mumbo-jumbo. Look things up after your visit, with your child! If you find he's lying to you or grossly misrepresenting facts, remove your child from his care immediately!
4. If your child's condition or behaviors seem to worsen and he tries to increase or add medications, remove your child from his care and seek another doctor's opinion immediately!

Thank you for listening. My only hope is that I can spare another child the experience I had. Please consider what I've said here, read other reviews, and talk to your child before making the decision to take him or her to Mortimer. This is something that can have lifelong consequences for your child, so it's worth the extra work!

I have been pleased for several years with the empathetic quality of the services of Dr. Mortimer and his office manager Jill. My case involves considerable bureaucratic paperwork and they have always endeavored to deal with it in a helpful and timely manner.

Dr. Mortimer is a very kind and attentive psychiatrist. I think he is always trying to think of ways to be helpful within his field of expertise. His office is well kept and clean and I feel that my privacy is well protected. He runs on time every visit and I've never had to wait more than a few minutes once I arrive for my appointment. His office manager is equally kind and is very efficient with scheduling and billing. I went to Dr. Mortimer with a complex problem and he was able to help me when many other doctors had no answers. He is very knowledgeable and always provides me with a thorough explanation to questions I may ask and provides me with additional literature so that I may be well informed. I would recommend Dr. Mortimer to my family or friends, and I already have done so in the past!

Without a doubt, they were the worst psychiatrist. I can't believe this guy is still practicing. His profession reputation is good within my community. Unfortunately, the Doctor has a bad reputation as a "Pill Giver" and does not provide alternative treatments. He just wants to prescribe & experiment treating with pills only. He has odd or strange personality with borderline creepy. I would not consider him trustworthy at all. I would never recommend him to anyone.
