Dr. Wright performed a laminectomy and discectomy on the lower lumbar area of my spine in 2003. I was in severe pain and discomfort at the time. Seventeen years later, I have had no further symptoms. He did an amazing job, and I would recommend his work to anyone.

My personal experience was mostly positive. The surgery relieved a lot of my pain, and he explained clearly to me that removing disks and fusing vertebrae were not a perfect solution to my problem, because the rest of the spine eventually shifts some to compensate for the change. This shift would likely create future pain and problems.

However, I understood that my current condition was so painful and disabling, and the present technology available did not provide other options, that I took the risk that potentially several years, hopefully many years, of relief, would buy me back many more years of a livable life.

It is now 2016 and I have cervical pain, but I am also still experiencing significant relief over my pre-surgery experience.

The results are not perfect, but they are to be expected. I can't sleep on my left side due to the restriction of the fusion on that side. Also, I don't remember whether he warned me that a potential side-effect of the surgery might be that my voice would be affected, which it was.

I am no longer able to sing, and my speaking voice is frequently gravelly, which I can't control. Both of these side-effects are frustrating and despairing to me, especially since I loved to sing and miss it terribly. These side effects caused me to give 3 stars instead of 5.

I would like copies of my medical records and don't know if I can get them since I had my surgery at Valley Medical Center in Renton, WA, in 2007, and Dr. Wright moved his practice to Alaska a long time ago. I am going to attempt to get them but will be very upset if I can't. That would change my rating significantly so I hope I will have success in that attempt.

Finally, in my search for a way to contact a Renton-based office that might still have my records, I came across some disturbing information about problems and malpractice suits against Dr. Wright that have arisen since moving his practice to Alaska.

Eventually, it seems that most Dr's find themselves in similar situations. That is why they have malpractice insurance. Dr's are not gods and sadly, can make mistakes. Serious mistakes resulting in permanent disability are cause for very serious, devastating repercussions. Repeated mistakes are enough to destroy the reputation and practice of a Physician, so I am extremely disturbed to learn of these situations and would not return to Dr. Wright again. I am very sorry that I have to end my review in this manner.

Dr Wright did well by me, but apparently others were not so lucky. 😢

I've known Dr. Wright a long time, I was a new nurse when he was a neurosurg. resident at the hospital I work at. So I knew from working with him that he was highly skilled and also a nice person, easy to talk to. This is important because going through a stressful event like a major back surgery, you need to feel supported by your doctor. He did a fantastic job on my lumbar fusion even though my bones were difficult. I couldn't recommend him more highly. I had the surgery done at Providence Swedish in Seattle, but the doctor is who I'm reviewing - not the facility.
