I first met Dr. Franco when I was a 14 yr old boy first diagnosed with Crohn's disease back in 1974-5. I had been kick around from Price Georges Hospital to Seventh Day adventist Hospital in Takoma park and then Georgetown Hospital. After a couple years I found myself in Fairfax hospital in Virgina. My folks lived in Maryland and the commute was a terrible extra burden. I had been a very healthy football playing 150lbs thick boy. At the time I reached Fairfax, I was down to 76 lbs and was resigning myself for the worst. Dr. Franco seems to be the one physician who knew what he was looking at. He knew what I had and my folks finally had a name to put to my illness. He laid out a plan of attack to my parents of what was to be done. He told me the truth. He said it would hurt but he would guarantee that he would do everything to make me comfortable. He would hook me up to hyperaliementation, thus feeding me through an artery going in my heart and then the surgery would re-sect the perforated part of my bowel. He told me straight out, the entire process would last a few months. It did.
I am now 52 and in good health. I have always wanted to thank this man for his super beside manner and his encouragement. I owe him my life.
