My 6 year old daughter currently is a patient of Dr. Darby. She was diagnosed at 3 years old as ADHD and was treated by her pediatrician. We had tried many medication in conjunction with behavior modification, but nothing really worked to help her control her impulsive behavior and hyperactivity. She would end up maxing out on the dosage of all the medications we would try. We even had to give her melatonin, an herbal supplement, to help her sleep at night. After doing this for 3 years and maxing out on her 4th medication her pediatrician sent us to the Psychology Department at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. They couldn't understand why no medication seemed to work. So they put her on her 5th medication. This was horrible because she was having manic episodes and my younger children where not safe around her. For a month I tried to talk to her treating Dr. or someone else about this and expressed my concerns for her safety and others. My messages, I left with the receptionist, were not being received and when they were received they were playing phone tag with me. After playing phone tag with 3 different Dr.'s during this timeframe finally one of them left a message for me to call and she would fit me in her schedule for that following day. I called the next day, promptly at 8:30am and told the receptionist the message left for me and asked to speak with the Dr. the Dr. was not in yet, but he would give her my message. I had my husband go there in person at 12pm after still not hearing back from the Dr. and found out that the Dr. had no idea I had called because she had not received my message and couldn't squeeze my daughter in anywhere since it was already noon. At this point I had enough. I went on the tricare website to find a civilian provider for my daughter because it took months to schedule an appointment and then when I was having severe issues it wasn't promptly taken care of. When I called Dr. Darby's office they made an appt. for The following week to see the social worker and an appt. For 2 weeks later to see Dr. Darby. When we saw Dr. Darby within 15 minutes he was able to do what no other Dr. Was able to do in 3 years; properly diagnose my daughter. She needed something to counteract the impulsiveness and hyperactivity and all the other mess were more so for the paying attention and little for the hyperactivity. He put her on a medication to help with this and a low dose of a medication to help with the focus. It is amazing to see my daughter in control of herself. Wow! Is all I can say really. I love what Dr. Darby has done for my daughter.
