I liked the physician, but feel information was lost. I came in for a preventive care annual visit, but before the exam began I let Dr. Larsen know I had specific symptoms suggesting a UTI (burning when urinating). Dr. Larsen said he'd test for cause during my normal pap smear. Normally, my OB GYN would do the test that day in the office, and I'd leave with an Rx on my way out the door. All I got from Dr. Larsen was "you'll hear in 3 weeks to a month, by mail." For something that feels like a UTI, anyone will tell you a month is an eternity. Indeed, in a month, I received a "normal pap smear" form letter, with no information about the possible infection. So now that I've had the symptoms for TWO months, I'm not a happy camper. And paying for a second visit should not fall on me, as I told him all this in my preventive care exam. :(

Dr. Kenneth Larsen seems to behave as though he's working at The Cattle Center and not The Women's Center at Alta View Hospital. In a word, I found him to be dismissive especially if you asked any questions that were not part of the apparently well established routine they practice. His nurse was exactly the same way. Neither one wanted to be bothered with questions or information that rattled their routine...so much so that when I noted my blood pressure was way higher than normal according to her reading, she almost ignored me. She told me that my blood pressure was high because I was at the doctor's office. I told her that I was at a doctor's office yesterday with a far lower blood pressure. No answer. Isn't that just what you want from your medical providers? They might've at least wondered if their own instruments were giving accurate readings. They both asked me the same questions about whether or not I'd ever had an abnormal pap smear. I'm fine with the repetition but did the answer dictate a particular type of pap smear that day? Wouldn't it have been nice if someone said something to me about what the answer to that question might mean regarding MY check-up and pap smear that day? I'm going to call their office today to ask about this. I hope I can get an answer. I asked Dr. Larsen about an HPV test that wasn't limited to a vaginal test (because HPV can show up in multiple locations in the body). His answer was either I can't do it or there isn't a test (he seemed to have some trouble answering this question) unless I have a lesion. If you actually have a lesion that tests positive for HPV you're probably in your last few months of life. A test needs to be done long before that which is why I was requesting one. I am under the impression that there IS a test that can be done to test for HPV anywhere in the body. If so, Dr. Larsen declined to even entertain or discuss this with me. I will follow up for myself on this but you have to decide if this is the kind of medical provider you want to work with. When he and his nurse were done with me, Dr. Larsen looked at me and with a big smile said, "See you in a year!" and left the room. Fat chance. I got dressed wondering if I was supposed to talk to anyone else or stop at the receptionist's desk on the way out. I walked out of the exam room and into the waiting area feeling like I didn't know what to do and feeling like I wanted to just run out of there as fast as I could. It was an awful visit, a waste of time, and a waste of money. I hadn't gotten what I wanted to get out of this visit even though I tried to ask for what I wanted and had raised all the questions I wanted to raise. I left feeling used and mishandled, dismissed, and ignored.

They made sure every single question I had was answered, and are always available if I think of any more questions I want answered. Their staff is very friendly and professional. I was so impressed with the progress I was able to make after visiting them. All my questions were answered, and I feel a lot more confident and hopeful about the future. The office was easy enough to find.
Dr Larsen in very efficient, appointments are almost always seen on time if not early. In fact you can see him racing through the hallways if he ever is behind schedule. Dr. Larsen in not the chatty type, but he is still very personable and answers all your questions.

I have been very happy with Dr. Larsen. He specifically was recommended by my primary care doctor. I have been very comfortable with him personally and with the treatment I have received. I feel healthier for the care I have received from him.

The staff has been friendly and I feel as though they recognize and remember me. I have had no problem getting an appointment when I need one. Though they did once need to reschedule, they did their best to make it as little inconvenience as possible.

On my first visit, I did not have directions to the office and ended up wandering Alta View hospital looking for staff to help direct me there, but once I knew where it is I have had no problem. Even parking is usually fairly convenient.
