A member of the staff, Jan, needs to be retrained or fired! Jan called my sister the day before surgery to say they did not accept Medicare Replacement. My sister explained she did not have this, Medicare was her primary with a secondary (supplemental) policy - all office paperwork was filled out showing this previously. Jan said she would call Medicare and the other insurance provider then call my sister back - she never called back. Then my sister received a call from the hospital where the surgery was to be performed stating Jan had called them and they did not accept Medicare Replacement and she owed almost $3,000. Once again, my sister explained all insurance information and what Jan had told them was inaccurate. When I arrived at my sister's home from Tennessee, she was distraught and stressed to the max. I tried to called Dr. Knox's office, it was closed but I spoke with her answering service. The woman who answered said she would check in to the situation and call me back - she never called me. Later that night, Dr. Knox's nurse called to check in with my sister to answer possible last minute questions. My sister told her of the insurance confusion. She was put on hold for a couple of minutes and then was told all had been resolved. The morning of surgery, my sister was again informed the hospital did not take her insurance and her surgery had been moved to another hospital. My sister provided her insurance cards AGAIN and was finally allowed to go to the hospital that originally had been scheduled for her surgery. When she arrived at the hospital, her blood pressure was very high and she was told she had come close to having a stroke. All of the turmoil and unnecessary stress that was placed on my sister was caused by Jan. This could have been avoided if Jan had not depended solely on computer input but had cross referenced it with the paper information previously provided by my sister. By the way, my sister had a biopsy, bloodwork, xrays and other pre-surgery tests done long before this 11th hour phone call was received from Jan...with no insurance problems!!

If you want to wait for hours and deal with a nurse/assistant most of the time, this is the doctor for you. Dr. Knox is a highly rated breast surgeon; however, I expect more care and certainly less waiting time. How can she possibly be 2+ hours late for an 8:30am appointment? There is a large staff here, and they seem to be quite capable, but I expected meetings directly with the surgeon. I had seen Dr. Knox no more than a total of 10 minutes prior to my surgery. She was not available prior to surgery to answer questions about test results. Immediately before and after the surgery, she was very caring and attentive.
