Dr. Tompkins was my primary physician for about six months before I was in a car accident which resulted in my SUV flipping and being totaled. I wanted to make a follow-up appointment with him after being discharged from the emergency room, but was unable to. I was given an appointment with the physician assistant instead (who is now my primary). I had gone in for at least two visits to try and seek relief from my seasonal allergies. I specifically told him Claritin, Clarinex, Astelin, Nasonex, Allegra, and Zyrtec do not work for me. He insisted Astelin works and against my wishes, prescribed Astelin (which I flat out refused to use again). He doesn’t listen to patients and makes his own assessment before the patient even finishes telling him what the symptoms are. I’ve worked in healthcare for five years now and this isn’t how our doctors treat patients. My last straw was when I wanted to get referred to a female doctor for a woman’s problem and he refused. After three phone calls with his nurse, I informed them I will not under any circumstance take my pants off in front of him and they finally agreed to refer me to the female physician assistant. At the office I requested my primary be changed to the PA and I’ve been much happier since.
