His faculty was very kind, the doctor, however, was not. It was my first visit and it started out with him not even introducing himself, just a shake of the hand. He went on to reading down a check list and not listening to what I had to say-he would even put a finger up and shush me when I tried to speak. This is a horrible approach to being a doctor, you're supposed to listen to your patients to gather information and go from there. Schwartz's arrogance lets him assume that he knows everything and can just tell his patient what is what.
He prescribed me a pill that I saw as unnecessary, when I said I was skeptical of being prescribed something new (and something none of my previous doctors, physician or endocrinologists) he told me I was being "completely illogical" and that he "questioned my resolve and will to take care of myself" since he was on "fourteen different medications that let me do whatever the hell I want!".
Not only did he insult me but he made large decisions and assumptions based on few data points, like when he asked what my highest and lowest blood sugars have been in the past few months, "just a good estimate" then proceeded to change all of my insulin rates and basal rates-just on a few haphazard guesses at what my blood sugars have been? This is not how you do science, this is not how you adjust your patient's insulin rates. In case you didn't know, you need to analyze trends. You cannot take unreliable SINGLE data points and base something off that. My chemistry professor would not give me any lab credit if I did that in my experiments!
I could go on, but here is some advice:
-Answering multiple, non-urgent, phone calls during an appointment is a no-no
-Don't insult your patients, it may help to talk to your patients...In which case you may know if they are pre-med and you wont have to waste your time explaining that the brain runs on glucose and not lipids.
-Look at substantial and reliable data before changing a patients insulin regime, do not go off a few 'guesses'
-Tell the pharmaceutical reps to meet up with you at a time when patients aren't around, it looks sleazy having them sitting in your waiting room.
-Once again, since you problem wont acknowledge it the first time I wrote it, listen to your patients and analyze reliable data, then you'll be on the path to being a good doc, unless you're just in it for the money.
