I have been going to Dr. Melvin for several years for an ongoing medical condition. Dr. Melvin always listens to what you are saying & he does not over prescribe medication in that he will give you the right dosage and not "drug you out".
He has good common sense which is often lacking doctors in general.
I highly recommend him.

This probably sounds like over-reach, but I'll say it anyway...

Dr. Melvin gave me my life back.

23 years ago, suffering from major depression, I decided I needed help
and chose to find professional help.

The first two psychiatrists I contacted tried "quick fixes", and when they didn't help much, they went no further.

Then a friend recommended Dr. Melvin.

My first impression when meeting him was a demeanor of calm professionalism, and obvious drive to help me with my problem.

After a substantial discussion of my symptoms, he decided that medication was the best choice for me.

We tried 3 different anti-depressants, all offered some, but not significant help for my depression...but Dr. Melvin did not give up.

He suggested a rather obscure "old school" anti-depressant that he had found was sometimes effective when the more recent medications were not.

I knew within 2 hours after taking this that my solution had been found. I was so profoundly moved that it was hard to control my emotions. I felt good for the first time in several years. And this has continued, with this medication, for the last 23 years, really the best years of my life.

Maybe some other psychiatrist would have been persistent like Dr. Melvin, but maybe not...and I would be where I was 23 years ago.

I hardly ever write this sort of thing. But it occurred to me that there might be someone out there like me who needs someone with his skills to solve there problem.

Thank you, Dr. Melvin

Dr. Melvin actually LISTENS to your needs and concerns before perscribing meds. If you are tired of a doctor just throwing med cocktails at you then go see Dr. Melvin. He WANTS to see you get better and works with you to that end. He does not meet with pharmacy reps (that I am aware of) therefore he is not influenced by them. He gives advice on how to handle drug side effects and which side effects you should call the office about.

His office staff is top notch; returning calls, answering questions, providing receipts and helping answer questions. The office is easy to get to from any south Charlotte location and from uptown. The atmosphere is professional and you won't see patient files piled up everywhere.

Dr. Melvin does not overscheudle and therefore is usually runing within 5 minutes of your appointment time. If you run late, you can even call ahead and they will generally work with you to hold your appointment.

Allen Melvin could have been the man who ended up ruining my life. After being diagnosed with depression and anxiety, he perscribed xanax and klonopin, both highly addictive and intense drugs. as he noticed my increased use of the drugs, he continued to prescribe them, even though my life was going in a downward spiral, heading towards a developing addiction problem. At any given time, he would prescribe me whatever I seemed to ask for, not seeming to care if I was over using the medications. I ended up in the hospital after a few months because of an overdose, and it was only at this point that he seemed to want to "lower" the prescriptions. I think that he is a crook, and is only in to get the commission for these medications, and he should have his license revoked. needless to say, I no longer use him as a doctor.
