My scheduled colonoscopy with Dr. Allan Cohen was a nightmare and something no patient should ever go through.

On the day of my colonoscopy, I was brought into the room where the procedure was to be performed; Michael Jackson music was blaring throughout the room and Dr.Cohen was sitting on a roller chair in the corner. The only person to speak with me and answer any questions I had was the anesthesiologist. Dr. Cohen never spoke or addressed me. When the procedure was about to begin, he (Dr. Cohen) clapped his hands together and said, "Ok people, let's go". Seriously? Obnoxious bedside manner.

The next thing I remember is waking up in the recovery room and asking the nurse how everything went. Her reply, "Dr. Cohen will have to speak with you".

I was told to get dressed and the doctor will then speak to me. I no sooner finished getting dressed, with the help of my daughter, when Dr. Cohen appeared and callously stated, " Well, I didn't like what I saw when I was in there. You're going to have to find a surgeon to remove your 'tubular adenomas'. If I tried to cut them you would have bled out". Needless to say, I was stunned, confused and terrified. I asked if he could recommend a surgeon and his reply was "I don't know anyone in this area who could do that sort of surgery".

As my daughter and I walked out of 477 Lakehurst Road, I felt completely numb and to be honest----hopeless. Here I was, going for a "routine" colonoscopy and now I'm being told that I need to have surgery for something I know nothing about and have no idea where to go! Although the cancer word was never said, it definitely was implied.

The next day a friend recommended a doctor at the University of Penn Hospital--I got an appointment with her in two days and in less than a week I had the surgery. I was not only given a clean bill of health, but the support and comfort I received from U. Penn was outstanding.
Today in the mail, almost three years later, I received a letter from Dr. Allan Cohen requesting to contact his office to make another "routine" appointment --the hell I will! No one should be told at the age of 55 to go and "find a surgeon" and basically be written off to fear and face what might be colon cancer. Today, I am healthy, vital and vibrant----thanks to the Drs. at U Penn----not Allan Cohen.
