The crown on my Nr 9 central incisor that had been in place for 30 years broke and needed replacing. One of the reasons that this crown lasted so long is that it had been specially made to fit at extra cost. I told Dr Padilla repeatedly that the old crown had been specially made to fit but my words fail on deaf ears.
In the process of replacing the crown Dr Padilla did not properly analyze my occlusal when measuring the clearance requirements for the lingual side of the crown. The new crown had to be sent back to the lab 5 times to be corrected. In the end the crown was cemented in place but the bite clearance was abysmal. Over the course of several follow up visits, Dr Padilla piddled at buffing down the lingual side of the crown to accommodate my bite. During one follow up visit she even started grinding down on my Nr 23 Lateral incisor without as much as asking my permission.
I asked her about replacing the crown but always got the run around. She of course was just not willing to fix the problem. She even tried a Quid Pro Quo approach saying that she would fix the crown if I had restoration work done on Nr 8 incisor.
I then made the mistake of allowing her to (try ) to restore the Nr 8 central incisor (battered dentist syndrome I guess). I told her how I wanted it and she came up with (what I now know to be) a lame story about not being able to do what I wanted due to some imaginary line. She sold me on a plane B and I explicitly told her that it was my expectations were that the tooth would retain its existing strength along with functionality as well as being resorted to its original condition as much as possible. I thought that I had sufficiently explained what I expected and that she understood that no part of the existing tooth front or back was to be filed on unless I agreed to it before hand. Well, she almost ruined the tooth by grinding down the lingual biting edge to where there was nothing left but the lingual fossa and left the tooth with a facial bite edge as thin as a postage stamp. This not only worsened my bite problem, but also affected my speech in that I started developing a lisp and would have chipped out on a pad of butter.
In the end I had to replace the crown on Nr 9 and have the restoration on Nr 8 redone, rebuilding the lingual biting edge in the process. And of course I had to pay for all of this out of my own pocket.
Three years later, Dr. Padilla has never acknowledged, nor returned my calls to her, requesting a refund or even to discuss this matter with me. When I did encounter Dr. Padilla in public, all she would say is That is all right, that all right Well for the record Dr. Padilla, No it is not all right!!
Dr Padilla is very inexperienced and has an edifices complex in that they the dentist think that only they only know what is best for you, typical of so many dentists today. Her response was typical of general dentists. She knows how it is supposed to look, and it does not matter that you do not like it.
Overall this is probably the worst dentist's office I have ever been to.
I do not and would not recommend this dentist to anyone. I have tolerated not posting a complaint long enough but when a dentist can't even call or acknowledge that there is a problem there is no excuse whatsoever in defending them. Shame on her! Patients beware especially those that say Oh I know her. She is so sweet and friendly. Make your own decision, but remember these are the only teeth that you will ever have. Once they are messed up by a dentist there is no really fixing them. If you need serious dental work such as a crown or any type of restorative dentistry, do yourself a favor, steer clear of this dentist. You will be better off going to a trained cosmetic dentist with a proven track record and years more experience.
Needless to say, I will CERTAINLY never EVER go back to Divine Smiles.
