I don't agree that Dr. Ted Bloch overcharges however, he is expensive. He is an M.D., and for that, you must pay a higher price, but his prices are not out of the norm for an M.D. If you don't want a doctor, go to a Social Worker, they are cheaper.
I would also say that the patients in the other reviews did not seem to inquire as to what type of therapy Ted Bloch does before complaining. I also thought Dr. Bloch presented as somewhat sterile but I brought up the issue with him and told him I thought there was a "disconnect" in the therapy. He explained to me that he doesn't do the kind of therapy where he responds very much, he tries to be neutral so as to incourage the transferrence and therefore those issues can be addressed in therapy.

If you want to know what kind of therapt Dr. Bloch DOES NOT do, you can find an article at the link I've copied below. I showed the article to Dr. Bloch and he told me that he does not do that kind of therapy and that I was expecting a therapudic relationship that he does not provide.

Read the article, it is rather long, but it will explain the kind of therapy Dr. Bloch does NOT do. If you are looking for the therapt described in the article, DON'T go to Dr. Bloch. Here is the link, the article is called "Beyond Empathy: Contact-in-Therapy Relationship."

I can't recommend this physician. Admittedly, the reasoning is subjective and probably for most not at all obvious in the beginning; Bloch's professional mien and style which abjures frittering the time away with extraneous psychotherapeutic musings is helpful and reassuring; some shrinks don't understand this. His knowledge of medicine is not questioned either.

One of my problems - the real foci of evaluation when choosing a mental health practitioner - is that he doesn't really care about me as a patient, I feel, and is something that is the sine qua non in this process. I'll call it empathy lethargy, which Bloch excels at.

Also, mental health care is about holistic treatment. Drugs ALONE is NOT how a patient is treated. Bloch did not recommend once in my treatment the need to see other types of mental health professionals to make the process work - not negative schema, not cognitive therapy, not anything. How do I know this works? Because I'm seeing others and their treatment has meant far more to me, bolstering and reinforcing opinions formed from gleaning health information for years. This man mostly dispenses with psychological treatment and, as physicians are wont to do, thinks everything is a pathology. I'm far from "insane", only now hooked on drugs which I'm dependent on him for. He never gives a timetable for weening off, never intimates of it.

Finally, I have been out of work for a while and had told him on many occasions that it wasn't economical to continue (psychiatrists make an enormous amount of money). Instead of trying to negotiate a reduced payment, even at least temporarily, for treatment (which I've had other professionals suggest), its either you have the money or you don't. 120 dollars for 15 minutes. This is equivalent to two days payment for many people working even above minimum wage, for 15 MINUTES of "work".

If you have a job like this, you must try hard to care. It's imperative. Can mental health patients be flaky and frustrating sometimes? Absolutely. This is exactly why you have to proactively seek to plumb the real depths of one's problems and be on alert to find the solutions. Other things like negotiated payments for the struggling, offering phone numbers for middle of the night emergencies, and a genuine sense of empathy is the MINIMUM beyond the medicinal competencies. This should not be a money-raking racket but a place of healing. Dr. Ted Bloch did not offer this to me and I can safely assume to others.

It is obvious that their office is cleaned regularly. It was fantastic. One thing I like about them, is how easy they are to reach in an emergency. They took my call and helped me right away. They keep the restrooms well-stocked here, and not just with the basics. There is mouthwash, lotion and other amenities. You can tell they want their clients to be as comfortable as possible. I knew I was getting top-of-the-line treatment when they told me about what they learned at the latest conference they attended, and how they were incorporating that knowledge into the practice. Getting an appointment with them couldn't be easier. They're always able to give me the appointment time that works for me, and I never have to worry about taking off work or trying to squeeze it in my busy schedule.

Hi,years ago I posted a bad review for Ted Bloch under the name "lelales." I was ill at the time and now I realize that Ted Bloch was trying to help me. It's difficult being mentally ill and not realizing it. I have recovered over time, but still take mdicine for my mental illness. I appreciate Ted Bloch's assistance and treatments. It must difficult to treat someone who does not realize they are ill. Ted is a good doctor. I apologize for my bad review on him. I was really ill at the time, but was in denial. I think Ted Bloch would be a good doctor. It must be hard helping the mentally ill, and I appreciate everything he has done for me. I wish him the best.
I have been recovering over the years. Thank God for psychiatrists. I really like Ted, and wish no bad feelings towards him.
Sincerely,
Sean

Once Ted Bloch refused to listen to my mental issues and couldn't help me, he raised his prices, and became very arrogant. Not only does he not understand mental illness, he can not help nor doesn't want to help the mentally ill. He's more concerned about his uptown demeanor and uppity attitude. I would trust him with my children or my friends. I don't don't how he received a degree, but I guess he has one, and his efforts to help in psychiatry end right there.

I make this warning in earnest, and I hope it helps people, who in the future, need a doctor.
I do not recommend Ted Bloch to anyone who needs psychiatric help.
Sincerely,
-S
