I was preparing for non-dental surgery and wanted to be sure no dental infections existed. The recommendation from Town Center Dental (Dr’s Narducci and Truong) was to replace two existing crowns, install three new crowns, and replace three fillings, for $5,000; $3,500 out of pocket after dental insurance.

The practice sent the treatment plan to my surgeon, and the surgery is now on hold because the surgeon is requiring that all the dental work be completed. The surgeon can’t risk malpractice by performing the surgery given the dentist’s professional opinion. I’m stuck dealing with the mess this dentist created.

The treatment plan seemed excessive, so I obtained a second dental opinion. Dentist #2 found two small cavities under existing fillings. The fillings (no crowns) will be replaced next week. That’s the extent of the recommended treatment, and the second dentist indicated even the fillings need not delay the surgery.

I am left wondering if Town Center Dental made the extensive treatment plan (a) out of true concern for my health; (b) to avoid liability given my impending surgery; or (c) because they figured they could pad the plan and the surgeon would require that it all be completed before surgery.

Otherwise, the office is, spa-like, and with state of the art equipment and a nice support staff. Are patients paying for the great-looking practice with unnecessary procedures? Good luck with your search for a reputable dentist.
