***** Update 01/24/17******

This dentist is definitely the most unprofessional provider that I have ever encountered!

The office called me back on 01/23/17 to tell me that they had my X-rays after all and said that I could still come in to my appointment. Since it was important that I not delay my treatment for a malfunctioning dental implant, I agreed to that. He told me about how to fix my implant and said that I would need to get a referral to another dentist to do the work. After this, I told him of my complaint regarding his office staff. He replied that "we don't have any checks to confirm that we received the records from other offices," and "this is a minor matter," and that "we do not have to follow up," and that "the only way you come up on our radar" is when we check your file before your next appointment. I explained to him that lack of followup on his part and on the part of his office staff should not become the patient's responsibility, and that his office staff had told me that if I did not obtain the records from my old dentist that they would have to reschedule my appointment. I also told him how his office staff lied to me saying that they "were not allowed" to call my previous dentist because HIPPA precluded it. I then reminded him that for him to have been able to fax the request at all proved that I had signed the release that allows his office to obtain information about my medical history from the other office. Therefore, that statement was patently false. It was likely a ruse to excuse their negligent behavior. He then said that he had "found my Xrays in a back bin." He said that they had been labeled improperly (again not my fault), and he "tosses them in a bin." I told him that it is ridiculous that his office staff did not obtain the records in a timely manner like they should have, they lied to me, they attempted to make it the patient's responsibility to obtain said records even though they did no follow up, they would have penalized me by rescheduling the appointment, an appointment that I had already waited for for 2 months, and they actually had random mislabeled or unlabeled records sitting in a "back bin" for which they make no effort to determine to which patient they belong. I am sure that he just tells his patients to obtain them themselves or be penalized by having their appointments rescheduled, because Dr. Swanson and his lazy inept staff couldn't possibly be bothered to or expected to follow up on anything or verify documentation received in their office. His response, "I have been doing it this way for 35 years and it works for me." So I told him that I would like to get the referral he offered in the beginning of the meeting, and he REFUSED. GREAT PATIENT CARE...NOT! So he has directly caused a delay in my medical treatment. This is the worst example of "patient care" that I have ever seen by a medical "professional," and I actually do not think either he or his staff even know the definition of the word "professional." I stand by what I say. If you want a dedicated dentist who prioritizes patient care, and has office staff that will uphold their obligations to the patient without passing responsibility for their tasks to the patient...THIS IS NOT THE DENTIST FOR YOU!

****FIRST INCIDENT POSTED 01/23/17****

I would not recommend this dentist. I made an appointment in November 2016 because I had a crown that was very loose and was about to fall out. They could not do anything about it at that time and said that I had to make another appointment 2 months away to get it fixed. In the meantime, they said that they would research what type of implant it was so that they could fix it. They also said that they would obtain my previous X-rays from my previous dentist. I signed a release of information and provided them with the name and location of my previous dentist. I waited 2 months for the next appointment and received a phone call the day before saying that they "were unable to obtain" my X-rays and that now I was responsible for obtaining the X-rays. I asked them why they were calling me the day before the appointment to notify me of this. I also asked why their office had not followed up on this since they had 8 weeks to do so. They told me that they sent the initial fax requesting it, that the other dentist did not send it, and that the reason why it was now MY responsibility to obtain the X-rays was because they were "not allowed to call the office." I told them that I am a health care professional myself and I am well aware that the release of information that I had signed in November in order to allow them to request the X-rays also allowed them to call that office. I spoke to the office manager and she said that I had to provide them with their phone number. I once again reiterated that they had 8 weeks to follow up, and that they had several weeks to call me to obtain any phone number or to ask me to call that dentist's office. I told them that they were negligent for not doing so and that they were unnecessarily delaying my medical treatment because they did not follow up in a timely manner. I also informed them that their statement saying "they were not allowed" to call them was patently false. I also told them that I had provided the contact information to the previous dentist on the paperwork I had filled out in their office during my first visit (where did they get the fax number? I gave it to them). THEN they said that they did not have the office phone number of the previous dentist...Really? I provided that information too. And I then asked them if they did not have internet access, because they could have Googled it from the office name and location. This dental office is negligent and lazy, and they had NO idea why I was upset. Why is it in any way acceptable for them to make almost NO effort to obtain the previous records, not follow up on requests, LIE to the patient about not being able to call them, make the PATIENT obtain said records, at the LAST minute before the appointment? If I have undue complications secondary to delayed treatment because of their negligence, they are risking legal action from me.
