I had the extreme misfortune of having to deal with Dr. Sacks on my recent hospitalization at St. John’s. He is a pompous, self-righteous, arrogant windbag! My surgeon left me in pain for 32 hours. No one was helping me and no one prescribed the correct drugs for an exacerbated disc herniation in my neck which is documented in my medical records! Finally, somehow Dr. Sacks showed up in my room where I was in tears from the pain. He started to chastise and berate me! He said that if I did not stop crying and start “behaving” myself he would leave. Did I want his help or not? He then proceeded to interrogate me on my use of drugs and alcohol virtually accusing me of being a drug addict, an alcoholic and nuts. I was in 10/10 pain from a herniated disc in my neck! When I told him this he said that I was lying – if I was in 10/10 pain I would be passed out. (The definition of 10 pain on the pain scale is “the worst pain imaginable,” not pain that renders you unconscious)! He continued to berate me and said if I did not stop crying he would walk out. When one has been in uncontrollable pain for 32 hours with no relief and no one helping, crying seems a pretty reasonable response to me! He eventually prescribed a very mild muscle relaxant and nerve medication and left. This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a doctor. I would expect this type of behavior from Dr. Mengele or one of his sadistic protégés, but not from a doctor at St. John’s. After I was released from the hospital I went immediately to see my own spine/pain doctor who is now considering surgery on my neck – that is how bad the situation was and is. My doctor also prescribed me the RIGHT anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxant medications. I am still in pain but much less so. Dr. Sacks is a sadistic, haughty, conceited person. If you are in pain go somewhere else! He should have his license pulled.

I had very bad experience with Dr..Sacks. He is very greedy and doesn't care about patients at all. He only sees dollar signs. He spends no more than 5 minutes with me per visit. He was taking a long time with his shots, and didn't let me go to the physiotherapy. Because of that, I lost time. The only form of payment he accepts is cash. This is very odd for a doctor to do.

Awesome doctor and Dr. Sacks is a GREAT person too. He really helps my dad. Dr. Sacks is the first doctor who actually listened and then figured out the problem. All the other doctors just gave my dad drugs. Dr. Sacks really cares! Overall - the BEST Doctor in LA!

Awful experience! My normal pain management doctor was out of the country and his on call doctor was Dr Sacks. The first time I went to Dr Sacks, he looked over my paperwork under two minutes and was ready with a needle in hand and ready to go. I have never received injections before but I was open to it if it relieved my pain level. Since this was my first time here, Dr Sacks gave me only a weeks supply worth of pain meds. It thought that was ethical of him to not give me a full prescription but still a pain in the rear end. I made a follow-up appointment a week later. I waited in the waiting room over an hour and a half! Dr Sacks tried pulling the same BS he did the first time we met. Dr Sacks only wanted to give me one week worth of pain meds, and inject me once again. So, it appears that Dr Sacks just wants me to come back again and again for him to get his co-pays and keep his business flourishing. It is very inconvenient that I only got 1 week worth of meds and that he wants me to keep coming back. I let Dr Sacks know that I was upset about the amount of medication that he was willing to give me, and Dr Sacks went off on a rampage, telling me I need counseling and therapy. Dr Sacks met me on both occurrences under five minutes each time. Dr Sacks also threatened me but I won't get into those details. I will never go back to Dr Sacks! Dr Sacks had zero bedside manor, zero care for his patients and an all around awful experience!! If I could give zero stars I would! Go anywhere else if you need a pain management doctor!!!!!

5 Star doctor! Dr. Sacks really listens and cares about his patients. I watched him take great care of an elderly woman, and Dr. Sacks was so patient and thoughful it almost made me cry. I see him every month for my chronic pain. We review the month and go over my medicines. He then makes adjustments to keep me comfortable and functional. I used to just take lots of meds but Dr. Sacks has helped me to control my pain with less medicine and be more productive. He is extremely well regarded by everyone and I agree he is the best pain doctor in Los Angeles!

I give Dr. Sacks and his staff five stars! Dr. Sacks is so thoughtful and caring. He really is an expert in his field and he really knows how to help people. I have severe low back pain and I have had five surgeries. None of the surgeries helped me. I went to Dr. Sacks without hope but he has restored my hope.
I am so much better now. My pain is in control instead of controlling me.
