My own experience with Toth has been very different from some of the "glowing" reviews posted below.

5 years ago, I was thinking about an Asian blepharoplasty to try and get the "double eyelid crease" as well as slightly rejuvenating my eyes. I came upon Toth from "glowing" reviews such as the one below (which I have to to believe to come from either Toth himself or his staff, as I find it hard to believe that a surgeon can produce such low quality work as in my case and do godly work in another). Anyway, I went for a consultation with Toth and he seemed nice enough at the consulation. Looking back now, there were definitely red flags that I should have caught, such as: 1) His trying to brag about the fact that he wrote a craniofacial book and trying to correlate this with plastic surgery of the eyes, which is a different ballgame, 2) His showing of the pictures of his Asian eyelid surgery, all of which look very exaggerated and not all that impressive, and 3) His refusal to acknolwedge any sort of possible complications in the procedure. Being young and impressionable at the time, I bought into his apparent bonhommie and underwent the procedure.

It was hell.

First of all, Toth scheduled my surgery about 4 hours before he was supposed to fly out of the country for a "conference," and during my fragmented memory of the surgery (I was under twilight sedation), I can recall that he was very rushed in his work. Also, I recalled that he was bantering very unprofessionally with his staff, even cracking sex jokes.

After having the surgery, I followed all of the instructions for post-op convalescence. Almost immediately I could see that there was something horribly wrong: One of the eyes' crease was so high and the other one so low such that there is a huge discrepancy (probably about 8 mm according to the surgeon who subsequently corrected the problem). At first I chalked it up to the swelling, but as weeks turned into months the situation remained the same. The difference was obvious even by just looking at the incisional crease height. What's worse, so much skin had been removed from each eye that I cannot close fully at night. As the results were so disappointing and traumatizing, I tried to talk to Toth but he started becoming very visibly nervous and apprehensive to see me. In one meeting, after discussing the problem and showing him his "work," he was literally standing at the door throughout the appt ready to bolt at the first chance. He never apologized or offered a plan to correct the problem, and being a bit wiser after the experience, I resolved to not let him touch my eyes again and went to a specialized, dedicated bleph surgeon to correct the problem. After two additional surgeries (one on each eye, one of these being a graft to help the eye to close), I finally achieved a passable result from the horrendous state I was in.

I have finally come out of the experience and put it behind me, but from time to time I still find the need to share my experiences with potential Toth patients. The guy may be able to do some good work from time to time, but from my own experience I simply cannot imagine him as this "superb" surgeon that some (I think) bogus reviewers make him out to be, or the "surgeon that other surgeons go to." The fact that Toth's office leaked info to the press about how he supposedly operated on the ex-Prime Minister of Italy goes to show how the man is a glory hound with little respect for his patient's privacy.

Therefore, I simply cannot recommend him to anybody, and I sincerely caution anyone from buying into potentially bogus positive reviews like I did. The truth is much more valuable and less glamorous sometimes.

Three years ago, I had a surgery to augment my cheeks with Toth and it was a total disaster. The implants themselves were improperly placed, resulting in asymmetry of my face. On top of it all, I had an infection from the surgery directly from Toth’s work that turned systemic and I had to be hospitalized to treat the infection. Therefore, as a result the implants had to be removed. Fortunately I was able to find another doctor to fix the mess, but the surgery with Toth and the expenses I incurred with him have traumatized me to this day.

Don’t believe it when Toth or his staff tries to advertise him as a “top surgeon” by drawing upon references in magazaines. Those kind of ratings are worthless and highly political. When someone has to tell you how “good” he is, he probably isn’t, and in Toth’s case a most definite “NO.” His false advertising and marketing is what got me, so I recommend anyone looking at him to seriously reconsider using this man for plastic surgery.

My son Sam was born with a severe cleft lip.His mother and I selected Dr.Bryant Toth from a group of plastic surgeons suggested by Childrens Hospital of Oakland Ca.The operation was a complete success. This has enabled my son to lead a full and complete life free from the ridicule and discrimination that are common among people born with severe birth defects. My son looks so good Children's uses his picture in their informational literature.
Dr Toth's surgical work, demeanor, professionalism, and forthright bedside manners are beyond my greatest expectations. He is at the top of his profession believe me.He has the finest bedside manner in addition to his surgical skills. His mother and I were almost literally scared to death to have any type of medical procedure done on our first born, much less major reconstructive facial surgery under anesthesia.Dr Toth took his time before, literally during,
and after to make sure we fully understood everything involved.Dr Toth explained risks, end results both good and bad,the pros and cons of having this type of surgery answering all of our questions fully. My sons mother has run a medical surgery office for much of her adult life, and believe me she had plenty of questions some of which Dr Toth probably hadn't ever been asked.
my son and I just saw Dr Toth on 09 21 09 and he was early to the appointment, friendly as always, fast and efficent with his exam.Of course he took a little time at the end to see if we had any questions before joking around a little with my son exposing the type of person he is.

The hassel of finding a reputable plastic surgeon in San Francisco is the one major thing that held me back from getting surgery. For years I had wanted to get a breast augmentation, but all the horror stories on television about botched procedures and sketchy plastic surgeons scared me to death. I started asking for recommendation and had heard only positive things about Dr. Toth from friends. I decided that it wouldn't hurt to get a consultation (By the way it was a free consultation). After meeting with Dr. Toth, my distorted images of plastic surgeons disappeared. He was warm, personable and thorough. After the consultation I received a quote from his nurse. I felt so comfortable with everybody and the price was reasonable. I ended up scheduling surgery within an hour of meeting Dr. Toth. There wasn't any pressure and I've never been happier with how everything turned out. My results are natural and the procedure went pretty smoothly. The only thing I can think of as a con is that it took a few weeks to get back into my normal routine. I wish I would've found out about Dr. Toth sooner!

As a board-certified plastic surgeon practicing in Washingston State for over a decade, I was faced with an odd predicament. I had an excess of fat under my chin and sagging underneath my lower eyelids but couldn't do liposuction or a blepharoplasty on myself. After carefully considering the 100-or-so plastic surgeons whom I know, I chose to fly to San Francisco to have Dr. Toth perform my surgery. I have always known him to be kind, considerate, artistic, and technically gifted. The decision was actually easier than I had expected and my results are very natural looking. I look and feel fantastic!

My only regret is that I didn't do the surgery sooner.

Thank you, Dr. Toth and Staff

Our daughter has a rare congenital conditional that caused her to have significant birthmarks on about 50% of her body primarily on her upper body, face and scalp. Her scalp in particular had many patches of baldness. We met with "the best" pediatric dermatologists and plastic surgeons, but after meeting Dr. Toth, we were confident that his experience and approach to our daughter's needs were truly the best for us.

Starting shortly before our daughter turned 4, we bagan the first of multiple surgeries to remove the birthmarks from her scalp and to pull together areas where she had hair growth to give her a more normal hairline. While it has been difficult for us as parents to go through this with such a young child, Dr. Toth and his staff have been very suppotive and responsive through all 5 surgeries we have had over the course fo the past few years. Our daughter has been amazing through this process and understands how Dr. Toth is helping her. While she doesn't look forward to the surgeries, she is completely comfortable with Dr. Toth and his team. This speaks volumes to their approach and how well they understand and wrk with their patients.

And we have been extremely pleased with the results. Our daughter has even commented that she likes how her hair is growing. Many of the significant bald patches have been removed and her hair coverage has greatly improved. Dr. Toth was honest with us that we would not have perfection given our situation, but he would do his best. We truly appreciated the honesty and have been very impressed with the best that he has given us.
