He was great me and my children,I have astigmatism so these appointments can be a bit iffy with the wrong doc.but doctor Hagar made the appointment very difficult but doctor Hagar has a calming affect and good he knows what he's doing so that makes you feel comfortable to. My son and daughters also see him he is great with all of them and my Don has a disability and can be very trying at times but Dr. Hagar worked around that and he made each of our appointments a very comfortable experience

Doctor Hager helped me in years past with getting an updated prescription for contacts/glasses so when I came back to the area I figured I would use him again. Not only was he unprofessional and spoke to me like I was a child, but his manor was extremely arrogant and he spoke down to me the entire time.

Upon getting my prescriptions from him I found that he hadn't filled them out correctly and I cannot use them for ordering contacts online. When I tried to contact him to fix this, his phone number has been disconnected and after talking to the business next door it turns out he just up and left! Not a notice, a call, nothing!

So now I have an invalid prescription and have to go and pay to get a new one. I'd say avoid like the plague but since he's moved onto somewhere else at least the pain of visiting him will be avoided!

(Disclaimer: I came to this provider after my employer changed their insurance and my previous doctor did not take the new insurance.) This whole appointment was a disaster and I will not be returning. I was treated terribly. I'm absolutely positive that I would have gotten better service anywhere else. Every time I'd ask a question, it seemed like he was annoyed and answered sarcastically or talked to me like I was a child. He badmouthed my insurance company and my employer; then belittled the female optometrist I had seen in the past. The "review draft" wants to say that "I understand he's busy," but I'm not so sure - he saw me as a new first-time patient the same day I called! Avoid!!

I want to file a complaint against
Michael Hagar, an optometrist in South Paris. His license number is
796TA. I brought my two year old son there this afternoon for an
appointment and we had a horrific, traumatizing experience. I want to
warn others of this doctors behavior, attitude, and physical abuse to
children. Upon entering this doctor was very rough, grough, and rude.
During the exam he held my child down and was slamming his head all
around. He had to put eye drops in my sons eyes and was using his
dirty fingernails to hold my
sons eyelids open. He ended up digging him in the eye several times. I
am a cna and RN nursing student and completely understand how
sometimes you have to hold down a child in order to do a procedure.
However, I have never seen anyone do this and then have that child
have marks and bruises afterwards because of it. While putting in the
eyedrops he held my sons head between his knees while my son layed
stretched out on my lap. My son was screaming it hurt and burned, but
the doctor just continued when I told him I didn't want to continue
anymore. I told him he was squeezing my sons head too tight and I
couldn't even fit a finger between his knees and my childs head. My
son now has bruises on the side of his head by his temples and on his
cheeks. He also has a black and blue eye from his lids being proded
open and then dug with Hagars dirty fingernails. The doctor even went
so far as to say, "You ever get the impression that I am torturing
him?" and then laughed! There was no nurse present, no receptionist,
no one. It was just the Dr, myself, and son. When it came time to pick
glasses and I asked if there were other
frames to choose from beside the ugly pair he presented me with he told me
I was "on the state" and this is what I got for free! Then when I
asked how long it would take for my sons frames to be in he said a
month, and I asked why that long. He answered with "for a second time
you are on the state and that's how long it takes with them." When I
got home I had an officer come out to my home because my sons face had
marks and bruises all over it. My sons eye is black and blue, he has a
bruise on his chin where the doctor held his head down too hard
against a machine, and has marks on his cheeks. We took pictures and I
filed a police report. I am also reporting this to local newspapers,
news, and I am contacting DHS and a lawyer in the morning. I want to
see if there was a way to warn other parents about this doctors
horrible behavior. I was belittled and treated unfairly because I have
MaineCare and am on the "State", and far worse my NO child should
ever have to experience what my little boy went through. He is
probably traumatized for life now. I still have to take him to another
eye doctor and I am now scared to death to do so and put him through
anything like that again. I don't know if I am getting the glasses
from MaineCare or not now since all of this happened, and my sons eyes
are extremely crossed and he needs something. The cop told me to continue taking pictures
over the next day to see how bad it gets. He looks far worse then
these pictures even show. The flash made the marks look a lot lighter,
but they are very visable in person, and the officer made a report
stating that. In the pictures if you look by his temples you will see
marks and a bruise on each side where he held him between his knees,
marks under his eys where he dug him, black and blue eye on one side
where he drove his face into one of the machines, and a bruise on his
chin where when he pulled my son by the head into the machine and the
place to set your chin was not high enough and smooshed his face into
it anyway. I want to make sure something is DONE about this
and charges are filed! I will not let this go and am going to do my
best to make this very public so this man cannot treat children or
adults for that matter again! My son is a precious two year old little
boy who is lying in bed covered in bruises and marks from an eye
doctor that this state has approved. Please do something about this.
Thank you.
