I will preface my review by saying you can EASILY do worse. Dr. Feinerman is definitely on the upper end of the desirability scale of the handful of doctors I have seen in my lifetime. He is fairly thorough and has an excellent and reassuring bedside manner.

I like the fact that his waiting room is plain/nondescript and doesn't have the typical medical field-related accoutrements you see in doctor's and dentist's offices: Things like dioramas of internal organs that serve as ads for medications and the like. So, you thankfully don't have the feel of a medical office when you walk in or while you wait. Therefore, medical anxiety about pressing problems is not fed through annoying visual cues.

His waiting area and examining room are cramped, but are remarkably quiet (he probably doesn't see children) and fairly clean.

Dr. Feinerman is probably in his early 60's, so one thing that kind of disappoints me (and this is by no means limited to him---but rather something I suspect is common of most doctors of a certain age) is that he doesn't seem to emphasize or suggest preventative measures that one can take for various ailments. While he seems to be very good at reassuring and quelling worries, he doesn't seem terribly enamored of preventative medicine and is somewhat dismissive of things that I feel could be addressed. In other words, as is typical of the old school doctors, he is more of reactive physician than a proactive one. Now, don't get me wrong, I am not some indignant hippie who expects an hour long handholding session resplendent with patchouli and a robust discussion of the merits of bean sprouts and alternative medicines---but I was kind of hoping for some minor flaws found in my examination to be addressed, even if they were secondary or tertiary to my primary complaint.

Still, with that being said, I would still recommend Dr. Feinerman. He's a bit pricey and only takes cash and checks (no credit), but at least you get to interact with him for a bit. A lot of these outer boro doctors are running real mills where you are unceremoniously herded from station to station in their office like livestock and are basically a SS# to them. The personal care you receive here is definitely one good aspect of an old-fashioned practitioner.
