Some yrs ago a "new" gastro doc came to Fairhope. went to him with my fever/pain complaints. never examined me; sat across from his desk hearing his story of moving here from B'ham. gave me a scrip for antibiotics, sent me home. pain became even worse, called that office where the person told me doc was out of town for holidays be back in 2 wks . that's how that doc left me. Neighbor then referred me to Dr Meichner. While he is probably short on "bed-side manner" or not talkative for older folks wanting "time"....I owe my life to him. He immediately referred me to surgeon. After colonoscopy, tests run, lab work etc., I had surgery removing the blockage making me so ill. Not having the surgery I perhaps would have ended up having "the colostomy bag". I am so grateful and appreciative to Dr. Meichner for recognizing my illness and immediately taking action on my behalf. Friends agree and we all refer other friends in need to Dr. Meichner...he's The BEST! Highly recommend!

After Dr. Meichner referred me to UAB for more tests I never heard back from his office. Two weeks later I had an episode and had to go to the ER. His staff indicated I had made a bad choice but were unable to fit me in. While at the Thomas Hospital ER THEY took great care of me and alleviated the pain associated to y pancreatic attack. The following day I was told the office could not get me in to review not only the UAB test results but the Thomas Hospital test results, At that time, when I was frustrated there was no coordination of care for my illness, the Meichner staff stated I should find another GI o tor to help me with. My problems.
I've never been sick in my life and once I finally do have to leverage a Dr. For a serious condition, I am asked to go find another Dr. I am appalled and ashamed of Dr. Meichner and his staff, specifically his nurse Susan. If I had know how terrible they were I never would have gone. I would never visit them again. I was very disappointed, as we're my 5 family members that "used" to go to him.
