I saw Dr. Mike Mena with my wife at Memorial Hixson for the month of May preceding her gall bladder surgery. I like Mike Mena when I first met him. Here is a 62 young man in the prime of his career that has a very serious committment to his profession and I felt immediately that I could trust him, that he genuinely cared, and later showed that he is a dedicated professional to his surgery practice. He'll be my first choice should we have anymore problems in the future. On May 27th he performed her surgery. It was conventional gall bladder surgery in her case due to stones in the bile duct which made endoscopy impossible.
He took us step by step through the process like we were a couple of his own kids, showed us all that would take place, and was very conscientious about costs as all of you know that none of it in healthcare is lowcost anymore. Mike Mena is also a former 13 year Veteran of the U.S. Air Force as an Air Force Surgeon. Since I was a U.S. Marine, I appreciated having this "Flyboy" on my wing! Folks, this is a very fine guy whom I like very much! My opinion is he is one of Chattanooga's finest in the surgical profession! I publicly recommend Mike Mena to all of you who need some help with any intestinal issue's. I also found a Christian belief in him and I appreciated that! Then he told us of his lifelong marriage to his wife who passed away only this past January. I appreciated that very much as well! Go see Mike everybody if you have a related problem in his surgical area. He is a very kind heart! Try not to work him to death as well. On May 28th the day after our surgery he was "on Call" with the Northpark emergency room and stayed in there doing operations until 4 a.m. the next early morning. The 3rd floor up there during this week was full...every room...and I saw this all myself, so I stayed and helped with my wife during these next 3 nights on account of the heavy volume of patients incoming. He is a very fine surgeon and guy.

They would never suggest that I buy something that wasn't necessary, and never pressured me. They were always very considerate and professional. I really liked that they took the time to explain my treatment's risks and benefits thoroughly. I was able to make a much more informed decision. They were one of the most courteous, respectful surgeons I've ever met, and I've met quite a few. They always go above and beyond to help me with anything I need. They never complain about anything, and I know I can always count on them. They never left me for an extended period of time and I never felt ignored.

Dr Mena is an outstanding and professional Dr. My family has seen him twice and he has come highly recommended by our PP. My 17 y/o daughter was diagnosed with Necrotising Fasciitis which is a rare and deadly flesh eating bacteria and he saved her life. Dr Mena performed the surgery on thurs 1/5/12 and she was just released sun 1/8/12. My daughters stay at Memorial was made as comfortable as could be , no one likes to be in a hospital , but the Staff was great and very attentive. Dr. Mena treated our daughter with Respect , made sure that we understood the procedures , risks involved , and the treatment process. He came everyday to check on her progress and has done nothing but Treat her and our family with the Utmost respect and dignity. He also has a great bedside manner and is extremely honest and upfront with everything.. Dr. Mena comes HIGHLY recommended by our family and we will continue to use his services. He saved our 17 year old daughters life and i cant express enough our gratitude for his excellent services.

DO NOT see this doctor. I'm including all the details so you know why not to see him!
My GP referred me to Dr. Mena predictably for a colonoscopy. When I got to his office (after waiting for about 30 minutes, he decided he needed to do a rectal exam first. I wasn’t excited about this, but obviously obliged. Rather than leaving the room to let me (a 23 year old female) undress, he closed the blinds and asked me to drop my pants and underwear to my knees. I was so uncomfortable and visibly shaken that I started crying. He could tell I was upset and asked “What do you want me to do – it’s not that bad”. I asked for at least a gown to cover myself up with, and he tossed a paper sheet to me. I covered up with that, and laid down—still very upset. He, again, noticed my frustration and asked if I would like his secretary to come into the room. Obviously I said yes. So, he left the room- still wearing the gloves he had already put on (that he touched the door knob at least twice with, and who knows what else outside of the office)- to get her. She came in the room and he mockingly said to her “she’s been here before, but she’s a little shy”—as if a rectal exam were a comfortable experience for an outgoing person! So, he proceeded with the exam, and showed his secretary (note: not nurse, just secretary) what he was doing, looking for, and eventually found- in my rectum. I was mortified. When he was done with the exam, he used the paper drape that was covering me to wipe my rectum (because of the jelly he used during the exam), which a) was gross and b) left me with no covering. So he and his secretary stood in the room, facing me while I had to stand up (with my pants & underwear at my knees, mind you) and pull my clothes back on. They didn’t even have the decency to turn around! It was the most humiliating experience of my life. Do NOT see this terrible doctor.

I haven't actually seen him yet. I have an appointment next week. However, he comes highly recommended by my PCP. My PCP told me that he has known him for 20 years and told me that he is an excellent surgeon. The phone # listed on here is not the correct #. The correct # is
423-870-2081. And his office is at: 2051 Hamill Rd. # B-403
Hixson, TN. 37343

He is located in the professional building right behind Memorial North Park.
I just wanted to put the correct # on here because I called the one that is
listed on here and it is a residence. The woman who answered the phone at
her home said that they get calls for him everyday. She was very friendly
and polite, but I'm sure that she would like to stop receiving phone calls
for Dr. Mena.

Anyway, hope this helps anyone who might be looking for his contact info.
Have a great day!
