I am only rating this practice one star because it will not allow me to rate it as zero. If you want to see a microcosm of everything that is wrong with the health care system today, then by all means waste your time at this practice. If you value your time, health, and money avoid this practice like the plague! You will wait for hours to be seen and when you finally are seen you will be rushed through your appointment. Dr. Gunawardane will complain to you if she has to process a worker's comp claim for you, even if you have been a patient for 8 years like I have. She doesn't like it because "it takes too long to get paid" which is a direct quote. The office will charge $45 for FMLA paperwork, $10 for a doctor's note, and $10 if you need to have your prescription reissued. They will only use certain pharmacies, regardless of how inconvenient it is for the patient, because "if I send it to your pharmacy the girls will have to stay late to do extra paperwork and they don't like that" again, another direct quote. And God forbid you ever have to deal with her office manager, Corey. Corey is rude, condescending and acts nasty and put out regardless of the reason for your call. I have never been treated as poorly by a doctor's office ever in my life and what makes the treatment of their patients even more deplorable is the fact that everyone in there is there because of extreme pain and serious medical conditions. I will be reporting this practice to every medical board professional and governing agency I can get ahold of.

After falling and hitting my neck on a violin case and my head on the concrete floor, I sustained a concussion with lots of complications. Dr. Gunawardane was referred to me through the ER. I was scared, in pain, totally a mess. She took the time to listen, asked many questions and even wrote everything down for me. She also spoke with my daughter and son with my permission and repeated the issue and course of action. Dr. Gunawardane went out of her way to call me and check on my condition.
She knew that I was worried about my students since I am a teacher and made sure that a note was written so that my principal could secure a long term sub.
Dr. Gunawardane made sure, by personally calling the pharmacy, physical therapist, and muscle therapist, that they were all coordinated and knew what they needed to focus on for me.
When my headaches were ragging and cutting through the medication, I called Dr. Gunawardane at home. She was quick to set me up with a pain control doctor and in to radiology for a MRA. It revealed that my brain had vascular damage from the fall that would not be detected by the multiple MRIs and CT scans. She sent me to the ER right away and set me up with the top Johns Hopkins Neurosurgeon.
I will be having brain surgery that, had these bleeds gone on undetected, I would have had died. It is my heartfelt belief that Dr. Gunawardane is knowledgeable, also dealing with my Lupus condition, caring, goes beyond the call of duty, and is passionate about helping others.
I am a Howard County School teacher who highly recommends Dr. Gunawardane!

Most of the positive reviews are old.

-Never on time. Frequently schedules patients knowing she won't be in the office at that time.

-I have never felt heard. She has given me absolutely no insight into my condition or treatment. With over 15 approved treatments for my condition, you'd think she would at least discuss my options with me. She does a lot of lectures for drug companies. She is bought. Pay attention, she talks about the cost of your meds more than anything else. She will tell you her whole life story and expect you to give a shit, when she doesn't even bother to look at your history or chart when you come in.

-People saying they haven't been put on hold for 1/2 an hour? Really? Three months ago, I didn't have this problem, but it's gotten progressively worse and getting ahold of someone without holding for 10-15 minutes is unheard of.

-The office is very disorganized. I received another patient's MRI in a stack of files they haphazardly threw together for me. Major HIPAA violation. If I still have the documents, I intend to pursue action in regards to that.

-I feel like she looks at me like a walking dollar sign.

-I heard her very rudely tell another patient "I am very busy doctor with many important things to do." Learn how to manage your obligations instead of packing people in like sardines and ignoring them when they have an issue.

-Depression is major side effect of the medication she prescribed me. I called the office to report it, and got literally no response. I sent a letter. Nothing. Left a message with a person. Nothing. Left a message on the machine. Nothing. I'll make sure my family knows who to sue when I die because I can't get a goddamn call back.

i have been seeing dr g for about 3 years and love her. she always goes above and beyond with any questions or concerns i have. when i got diagnosed with MS in 2009 i went through 4 other neurologists before finding her and none of them treated me the way she does. they all wanted to blow me off and not take me seriously because of my age(i was 20 when i got dxd, now 25) i wouldnt dream of switching doctors.

This doctor put me on a very, very expensive treatment program at her husband's medical practice. This program subjected me to an intravenous drip every month for 5 days, 6 hours a day. After 2 years on this program, I got a second opinion. I was told that it was experimental and to discontinue the program; it could cause damage. This doctor also continually tried to sell medications & seminars to me. Her constant sales pitches were a definite turn-off. Due to her greater interest in making money compared to her interest in treating my diagnosis, I stopped going to her. She seems driven by the money. She also convinced my 87 year-old grandmother to allow her to follow my grandmother, since my grandmother had a stroke 25 years ago. She put my grandma on unnecessary medications. After approx 1.5 years on the medications, my grandma became toxic and totally lost her memory. My 90 year-old grandma stopped going to Dr. Gunawardane. My grandma has a new doctor and 100% of her memory has returned. I will never return to Dr. Gunawardane.

I don't think I have ever been put on hold here for a long time and am so impressed with how quickly all of my questions are answered. There's nothing worse than having to wait on hold for a half an hour just to get someone to talk to you. They always go above and beyond to help me with anything I need. They never complain about anything, and I know I can always count on them. I couldn't believe how great their office looked. It was very obvious that they took pride in the office's appearance. It was one of the best looking offices I've ever seen.
