Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 3 slices ginger

  • 2 cloves garlic

  • 1 sliced onion

  • 2 1/2 pounds beef, cut into 1 inch cubes

  • 2 cups beef stock

  • 1 whole star anise

  • 1 1/2 sticks cinnamon

  • 3 tablespoons light soy sauce

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon five-spice powder

Directions

  • Heat a wok over high heat. Add the oil, ginger, garlic, and onion, and stir fry for one minute. Add the beef to the wok and continue to stir fry for about two minutes on high heat. Add the remaining ingredients and mix everything together.

  • Transfer the entire mixture to a slow cooker and cook it on low for six to eight hours.
