Ingredients

  • 4 cups water

  • 1 1/4 cups pinhead oatmeal

  • 1/2 pound ground pork

  • 1/2 pound ground beef

  • 1 small (or 1/2 large) onion, sliced

  • 2 bay leaves

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • Pinch of black pepper

Directions

  • Boil the water in a large pot. Add the salt, pepper, and oatmeal, and cook for 30 minutes, stirring frequently.

  • In a separate bowl, combine the pork, beef, onion, and bay leaves. Add the meat mixture to the cooked oats and stir well.

  • Cook for one hour, stirring frequently. Remove the pot from heat, discard bay leaves, and transfer to bread pans for overnight refrigeration.

  • When ready to serve, cut the goetta into slices approximately 1/2 inch thick and fry in a frying pan until crispy.
