When children and teens experience a heart condition, it doesn't only affect their physical health. It also impacts their emotional, academic, and behavioral well-being. As a Pediatric Cardiac Psychologist, it is her privilege to work with families to manage the stress and challenges of living with a heart condition. This can include working together to learn coping skills, manage pain differently, and build emotional strength. Dr. Adame also assesses mental health concerns that may arise during treatment, or a hospital stay. As a member of the Pediatric Cardiology team, Dr. Adame helps to provide holistic treatment for each patient she sees. Dr. Adame’s research interests include improving health outcomes and rural healthcare.
Heather Adame
Dr. Heather Adame is a Pediatric Psychologist, who works with children, teens, and families seen in Pediatric Cardiology. Dr. Adame grew up in Montana and traveled across the United States for special training in helping families manage mental health challenges that can happen when a child is sick. She received her PhD in Counseling Psychology from The University of North Dakota. She completed her Internship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She completed her Fellowship at Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC before settling in beautiful Charleston, SC with her family.When children and teens experience a heart condition, it doesn't only affect their physical health.
