His medical journey began in Brazil, where he attended medical school and completed his neurosurgery residency in 2017 at the renowned Paulo Niemeyer State Brain Institute. He then moved to the United States for advanced training at the University of Virginia, including a postdoctoral fellowship in neuroscience and a three-year fellowship in endovascular neurosurgery.
He cares for patients with conditions such as stroke, brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, cavernous malformations, carotid artery stenosis, intracranial stenosis, and brain tumors. His goal is to provide each patient with the most effective, personalized treatment possible. Dr. Norat’s research focuses on ischemic stroke, mitochondrial biology, and neuroimmunology and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. He also holds a U.S. patent for a novel stroke therapy.
