He completed a surgical residency at University of Washington Affiliated Hospitals in Seattle, followed by a pediatric surgery fellowship at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. He then completed a thoracic surgery fellowship at University of Washington, followed by a specialty registrar in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London. He also earned his doctoral degree from the University of Illinois.
