Gerard Limerick
Gerard Limerick, M.D., Ph.D., is a rehabilitation physician who specializes in treating patients who have chronic pain. He sees patients with all types of pain — most commonly pain stemming from muscle and joint conditions. He also has expertise in treating pain due to nerve damage related to diabetes (diabetic neuropathy).Dr. Limerick obtained his medical degree, followed by a doctorate degree in cellular and developmental biology, from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He then completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Temple University Hospital/MossRehab in Philadelphia. He also completed clinical and research fellowships in pain medicine in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.Dr. Limerick’s clinical and translational research focuses on understanding neural pathways that transmit pain signals, with an emphasis on painful peripheral neuropathies (such as diabetic neuropathy). He is also interested in exploring new treatment approaches for management of neuropathic pain. Dr. Limerick is passionate about mentoring and training future pain medicine doctors. He is the associate director for the TIME Pain Medicine course, an introductory course on pain medicine for first-year students at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is also associate program director for the Pain Medicine Fellowship at Johns Hopkins, and he regularly conducts bedside teaching with the program’s fellows.Services
