Laura Ackerman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She received her undergraduate degree in neuroscience from the University of Rochester and completed medical school at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo, where she was a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society. She completed her training in general adult psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Hospital where she served as chief resident during her fourth year. Dr. Ackerman leads the acute psychiatry inpatient service and also sees outpatients in the Johns Hopkins Hospital Community Psychiatry Clinic. She specializes in community psychiatry and taking care of patients with severe and persistent mental illness.
