Stephens received her first master’s degree in natural sciences from the University of Buffalo in New York and performed research at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, an affiliate of the university. She received her second master’s degree in medicine shortly after. N.P. Stephens returned to Buffalo where she spent six years working for a federally qualified health care site, which received the National Health Service Corps grant, before moving to Maryland.
