About
John Young
John S. Young, MD, FACS is the Chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery at Northern Westchester Hospital. He sees patients and performs surgery at Northern Westchester Hospital and Phelps Memorial Hospital. He also serves as an Assistant Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. After graduating with honors from Harvard University, Dr. Young received his medical degree from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson and general surgery training at Brown University, where he was also the Armand D. Versaci research scholar. He subsequently completed his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Northwell Health, followed by a minimally invasive thoracic surgery fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Prior to joining Northwell, he served as an associate surgeon at Brigham and Women's Hospital and an instructor at Harvard Medical School and was also honored to be named the inaugural Surgical Director of the VA Boston Lung Transplant Program where he built a thriving lung transplant program dedicated to the care of veterans across the country.Dr. Young specializes in the surgical and multidisciplinary care of patients with a wide variety of thoracic conditions including lung and esophageal cancers, mediastinal masses, severe gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and hiatal hernias, as well as end stage lung disease, mechanical circulatory support, and the management of complex esophageal and pulmonary pathology. He is board certified by both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has authored numerous publications and book chapters, has been invited to lecture both nationally and internationally, and has been awarded and recognized for his clinical excellence and leadership in the field of thoracic surgery. He is highly experienced in robotic surgery, performing minimally invasive thoracic procedures, and combining cutting-edge technology with personalized patient care.
