Daniel Karel, DO, is a hematologist and medical oncologist at Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center in New Orleans, where he joined the team in 2025. Dr. Karel focuses on the treatment of blood disorders, including blood cancers, with a particular interest in multiple myeloma and plasma cell disorders.
Dr. Karel completed his undergraduate studies at Boston University and earned his medical degree from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in New York City, graduating in 2018. He completed his residency training in internal medicine at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., in 2021. After his residency Dr. Karel spent one year on the internal medicine faculty at GWU. During this time he completed the Master Teacher Leadership and Development Program through the GWU School of Education and Human Development, where he continued to develop his passion for medical education.
Dr. Karel subsequently completed his subspeciality training in hematology and medical oncology also at the George Washington University in 2025. He is board-certified in both internal medicine and hematology and board-eligible in medical oncology. He is a member of the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Society of Hematologic Oncology.
Dr. Karel is dedicated to addressing the medical needs of his patients and their families. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time outside, eating his way around the city of New Orleans and spending time with his family.
