Dr Gunnell attended Utah State University where he earned his bachelor's degree before heading to Kansas City, Missouri, for medical school. He completed his residency at the Medical Center of Independence and then moved his family to Elko to begin practicing as an orthopedic surgeon. Dr Gunnell has now been serving the communities of northeastern Nevada for fifteen years.
