He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan and later worked in the medical device and pharmaceutical industries prior to returning for his medical degree at New York Medical College. An internship followed at Alameda County Medical Center, a University of California, San Francisco affiliate, in Oakland, California. Dr Michas-Martin then attended the University of Colorado's neurology residency program and a subsequent movement disorders fellowship at the same institution.
