Went in to the appointment knowing I had shingles because I've had it before. However, just because it didn't present in the typical way, she just would not listen and dismissed it as "just a rash". After a week and a half of pain, 2 different antibiotics, a round of steroids, she finally prescribed an antiviral. However she clearly still didn't get it because she refused to prescribe pain meds beyond 9 pills "for just a rash" which is offensive. FYI, I have diabetes and recent problems controlling it means I may be somewhat immunocompromised. This should have been a clue to her, it wasn't. Compromised immune systems can cause Atypical Shingles. Its a thing, a thing that clearly went over her head.

Does she not know shingles isn't just a rash? Does she not believe I have shingles, then why the antiviral? She did prescribe an antiviral so which is it? If i were a drug seeking addict or something, id understand. However, shingles is very painful, and her job is to listen to her patient, especially after 2 antibiotics, steroids, the kitchen sink, etc. She is just not good at anything outside textbook presentation. This is not the first time I've noticed this.

I had already scheduled an appointment with a new primary care halfway through this mishandled shingles episode when I sent her a message to her about her mishandling of this. I reminded her that my previous doc who retired, which I loved, handled my previous shingles episode much differently. However, maybe she got "rear end hurt", because she dismissed me from her practice. For the record, I fired her first, just saying.
