In 1987, Sandra Pratt, NP, decided to apply for nursing school to optimize health, which she does today as a nurse practitioner focusing on cardiology, functional medicine and regenerative health. Her first real job in medicine was in critical care, which set her course for the future. “I never wanted to see people in that condition, so I focused my career on healing illness and optimizing health,” Sandra says.
Sandra is a graduate of The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA. She has worked around the country in Ohio, Virginia, Mississippi, California and Michigan.
Something Sandra learned in her education was to never worry about any one number in the big picture, but to look for patterns and opportunities to prevent chaos. “I look for the root cause of their current concerns and try to work backwards to optimize their health,” she says of treating her patients.
As Sandra cares for patients, she strives to meet them where they are and learn their needs. “They are coming to you for answers they couldn’t find on their own, and they want honesty and compassion for their situation,” she says.

Who is or was the most influential people/role models in your life? My high school coach.
What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? Lifeguard; saving toddlers
What is your favorite movie? I like the movie Rudy.
What was your best/worst subjects in school growing up? My favorite subject was math and my least favorite was English.
If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? Any friend, any time, because my friends are gifts to me.
In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? Restorative health, my protection breed dogs and my bison farm.
What are your hobbies, interests? Gardening, homesteading, politics
Do you have pets? Yes
That is something most people don’t know about you? I played water polo until I was 30 years old, for OSU.
