Dr Shahrestani earned a medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, graduating in the top 5% of his class with highest honors. Following medical school, he completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas working at Parkland Memorial Hospital, the city's largest level 1 trauma center, and the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, the country's number one pediatric orthopedic hospital. His residency experience included a focus on orthopedic trauma, fracture care of upper and lower extremity injuries, arthroscopic management of intra-articular pathologies, as well as joint reconstruction and replacement.
