“I specialize in thinking outside the box when creating my treatment plans,” says Dr. Vojnic. “Given my research experience, I understand which drugs might work better than others in people based on the tumor type they are diagnosed with.”
Dr. Vojnic earned her medical degree at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia and went on to pursue an internal medicine residency and a medical oncology and hematology fellowship at Lenox Hill Hospital. “My mother is a doctor, which influenced my decision to pursue the field of medicine,” says Dr. Vojnic.
At Lenox Hill Hospital, Dr. Vojnic closely collaborates with radiation oncologists and surgical oncologists. Some of the tumors they treat are so rare that standard-of-care guidelines haven’t been established. However, she and her colleagues develop tailored treatment protocols using the latest therapies to improve outcomes and help eligible patients enroll in clinical trials. “Our approach is patient-centered, and considers each person’s individual needs and values,” she says.
In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Vojnic is assistant professor at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. She is a member of the Society for Neuro-Oncology, the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. She has published her research on targeted therapies in prestigious journals such as Cancer Discovery, Clinical Cancer Research, and Communications Biology—Nature.
For Dr. Vojnic, one of the most fulfilling parts of her work is committing herself to the well-being of her patients. “I tell my them that they can always reach me with questions and concerns,” she says. “Empathy and compassion help ensure that people feel cared for and heard. We are treating the patient, not just their disease.”

Morana Vojnic, MD, MBA, is a medical oncologist at Lenox Hill Hospital and director of oncologic services at the Brain and Spine Metastases Program. Relying on her research background in molecular genetics, Dr. Vojnic creates personalized treatment plans using targeted drugs, immunotherapy, and chemotherapy for people with brain cancer and metastatic lesions of the brain and spine.
