About Alyssa

Alyssa Carney knew since high school that she wanted a career in medicine. “When one of my volleyball teammates dislocated her patella, I found myself running towards her for support when everyone else ran away,” she explains. “I felt comfortable in this situation and wanted to continue to help people by starting a career in medicine.” She also comes from a family of physicians. Her mother is a pediatrician hospitalist, her father is an optometrist, and her brother is an infectious disease physician in the Air Force.

As a Physician Assistant, Alyssa helps to repair and heal injuries and soft tissue/bone diseases by working as a team with her collaborative physician and other colleagues to determine the best treatment plan for each patient. She chose this particular specialty after seeing how orthopedic specialists helped family members become active again following a degenerative joint disease. “I hope to repay the favor to as many patients as possible,” Alyssa says. She chose to practice at Beacon because of the team approach and welcoming atmosphere. “They’re truly interested in helping each other be the best providers they can be.”

When it comes to her philosophy, Alyssa believes in involving the patient in their own care as much as possible. “I practice evidence-based medicine while being caring, compassionate and team oriented,” she says. “I’m easy to talk to and make sure I listen to my patients. You learn a lot about their situation that way.”
