About

Dominique Bailey

As a pediatric gastroenterologist, I am dedicated to improving the lives of children and adolescents with complex disorders of the gastrointestinal system. I have a special interest and clinical expertise in immune-mediated inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, which involve the multifaceted relationship between the immune system and GI tract that affects the growth and development of children. These disorders greatly affect the quality of life for children and families and are often difficult to identify and treat. My team and I utilize a multi-disciplinary approach to offer the highest quality care of children with eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders, including eosinophilic esophagitis using the latest evidence-based advances, state-of-the-art procedures for diagnosis and management and offer consideration for participating in clinical trials for treatment of these disorders. Some of the conditions we treat are eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases (EGIDs) that include eosinophilic esophagitis, eosinophilic gastritis, eosinophilic enteritis, eosinophilic colitis, and oral immunotherapy associated EGIDs. In addition, I also treat children with food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome and food protein-induced allergic proctocolitis of infancy.  I direct the Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Diseases Program Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Diseases (EGIDs) Program and work closely with allergists, nutritionists, psychologists, pathologists, and social workers. I also consult with language pathologists, child life specialists, endocrinologists, and ENT specialists to provide personalized care for each child. This program integrates collaborative research efforts and clinical practice to advance the care of children and young adults living with eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders. Our team provides the utmost care for each child and believes in creating a medical home within our center of excellence for patients, families, and providers.  In addition, I am a clinician-scientist and principal investigator studying esophageal development and eosinophilic esophagitis at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. It is my vision to further our understanding of eosinophilic esophagitis and to develop novel therapeutics using novel 3D organoid model systems and innovative murine models of pediatric eosinophilic esophagitis. In addition to clinical care and research, I have had the privilege of mentoring future physicians and junior scientists on their journey toward academic success. Several of my mentees have pursued degrees in medicine, and doctor of philosophy, and have been recipients of prestigious awards including the U.S. Fulbright scholarship.
