About

Emily Auger

I see my role as a consultant or a teacher. I like to begin visits by having my patients tell me a narrative story about what has brought them to seek care. I use that information combined with the results of a physical exam to make a diagnosis. Together we choose a treatment plan that works best for them so that they can reach their health goals.

Sometimes the plan involves family members. For instance, in the case of diabetes, changes in the home and lifestyle can be hugely beneficial if the family is supportive. Diet changes embraced by the whole family are much more achievable and can add years of quality of life to the patient, as well as reduce their medication needs.

The most rewarding part of my job is building relationships with my patients. I want my patients to feel that they have been heard and not judged. I am always willing to take extra time to make sure that they really understand what’s going on in their body, and that they understand the plan going forward. It brings me joy to help a patient understand their condition and develop a care plan together.
