About

Jordan Bergstrom

"Treasure the little things."
That is the key lesson Dr. Jordan Bergstrom has learned from her patients. "Hearing is how many of us stay connected with loved ones," she adds. "It can be very frustrating not to hear or be able to participate in conversations."

Audiologist
She chose the profession out of her love for science. But it was a course in Communications Disorders that inspired her to specialize in Audiology. As she learned more about the subject and began volunteering at the veteran's hospital, she realized how much she truly enjoyed working with the geriatric population. "We learn how important hearing is for our relationships," she explains. "I will never forget having to wear earplugs for a class to mimic 'mild to moderate hearing loss' for the weekend. It was one the most frustrating experiences."

Treatment for Hearing and Balance Disorders
Today, Dr. Bergstrom provides diagnostic testing and treatment for hearing and balance disorders for her patients. "I am able to fit amplification devices for all ages. There are a variety of options beyond hearing aids."

She chose Beacon because of its community outreach and values, enhancing patients' physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. "It's important to treat the whole patient not only a part or peice," she says. "Beacon is giving back to the community. Their values align with my core beliefs as a professional."
When it comes to her patients, Dr. Bergstrom has one mantra: Education, education and more education. "Hearing health is so important, yet it's an area where many people delay treatment." She stresses the direct impact of hearing on so many aspects of our lives. "It's how we communicate with family and friends and learn about the world around us. It is important to protect your ears from noise damage and have your hearing tested as a part of your overall health. Having a hearing evaluation does not mean you are agreeing to hearing aids. It means we can find a baseline of your hearing ability."

In her own words:

Who is or was the most influential person/role model in your life? My parents. They taught me to remember what is important and the value of hard work. They are the best role models for me and my brother.
What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? My first job was as a dishwasher at a local restaurant where I grew up. I worked there for four years and worked my way up from dishwasher, to hostess, to cook.
What is your favorite food? Movie? I love to eat pasta. My favorite movie is a tie between Up and Tangled.
What were your best/worst subjects in school growing up? My favorite subject growing up was science. I loved all science, from geology to physics. One of my favorite memories is going caving in our geology class.
If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? My maternal grandmother. I would love more than anything to see her again and have one more conversation.
In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? What are your hobbies, interests? I am passionate about my family and my dog. I enjoy spending quality time with my husband and exploring the local area. We are new in town and love trying new restaurants, going to the farmer's market and exploring new hiking or running trails. I'm also working on my sewing skills!
Do you have pets? Yes, I have an 8-year-old black lab named Kobe we adopted from the Mishawaka humane society. He is my favorite couch companion. He loves to snuggle and eat any found crumbs in the kitchen.
What is something most people don't know about you? Most people don't know I have a twin brother, and we could not be more opposite. He is my brother and one of my best friends.
