Lacey MenkinSmith
Dr. Lacey MenkinSmith completed her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and her medical doctorate at the University for Miami, Florida. She then went on to complete a residency in Emergency Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. Following completion of residency, Dr. MenkinSmith did her fellowship in Global Emergency Medicine with a focus on Emergency Medicine Education in low- and middle-income countries, working in Haiti, Uganda, Guyana and Nicaragua. Dr. MenkinSmith continues her work in Global Health as the director of the Global Emergency Medicine fellowship in the Department of Emergency Medicine and the director of the Global Health Residency Track. Dr. MenkinSmith is board certified in emergency medicine through the American Board of Emergency Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). She serves as the ACEP Deputy Ambassador to Guyana. She continues to teach and work clinically at the Georgetown Public Hospital in Guyana and the Masindi Kitara Medical Center in Uganda. In addition to Emergency Medicine education and Global Health, Dr. MenkinSmith's academic interests include tropical medicine and infectious disease. She has her Diploma in Clinical Tropical, Migrant and Travel Medicine through the University of Minnesota and trained at the Alexander von Humboldt Tropical Medicine Institute in Lima in Peru. She is currently a Masters in Science in Global Health and Infectious Disease Candidate at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. She holds a Certificate in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene through the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. She is a member of the Specialized Medical Unit for HRID, serves as the Emergency Medicine Director of high-risk infectious disease. Her research focuses training healthcare workers in PPE utilization and responding to HRID. She also serves as the medical director for the MUSC Back2Business program, helping businesses and schools in the community with COVID-19 response.
